If this sounds like you, we have opportunities available in our Greenwich or Redbridge services. We are looking for a HCPC registered Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to help us to develop our psychology and trauma-informed service.

Supporting people to develop their recovery capital is at the heart of what we do. This involves helping people to build meaningful relationships, get their basic needs met, grow their skills, and access a rich and supportive community.

Main duties of the job

Within this role, you will work directly with individuals and groups who are seeking support for substance use, flexibly delivering psychological support that responds to the context of peoples lives and works with the social determinants of health. We work closely with local mental health services, helping ensure that no one falls between the gaps.

Job responsibilities

Role Purpose

Provide and facilitate high quality psychology interventions across designated WDP services as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Be responsible for the designated services Assistant Psychologists, Trainee Psychologists and associated placements.

Key duties and activities of the role

Work as a registered psychologist, to provide excellent psychological interventions, developmental and practice development support and supervision within designated services.

Formulate and implement plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a persons problems, utilising joint working where appropriate.

Assist in the development of systems, pathways and documents that promote holistic delivery of psychological interventions, including safeguarding and risk management issues for people with complex needs.

Support designated services in developing and implementing evidence based psychological interventions including groupwork programme offer and practice supervision.

Provide specialist psychological guidance, consultation and training within designated services and to partner agencies.

Provide direct supervision and line management to trainee and assistant psychologists, and other team members where appropriate.

Undertake risk assessment and risk management relating to psychological interventions and ensuring appropriate action in accordance with legislation, professional and organisational requirements and best practice guidance.

Have oversight of and deliver psychological interventions, ensuring that they are in line with all relevant legislation, best practice guidance, professional and CQC/Ofsted standards and organisational documents.

Use theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence -based practice in own work and work with colleagues.

Undertake appropriate research and provide research advice/supervision to colleagues undertaking research.

Be involved in and where appropriate take responsibility for relevant audits, ongoing monitoring and implementation of associated recommendations/action plans.

Facilitate effective implementation of contingency management in designated services.

Attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings, advising on issues of service and policy development for the psychological interventions, as well as wider operational and strategic issues

Be involved in recruitment processes as appropriate.

Appropriately respond to the emotional demands of working with individuals with complex needs, including behaviours that colleagues may find challenging to manage.

Record, monitor and report on clinical work and communicate (in accordance with organisational requirements), in a skilled and sensitive manner, clinical information (including assessment, formulation, treatment plans and progress) to a variety of recipients (e.g. people who use services, their significant others, other professionals, formal panels, statutory and voluntary organisations) orally, in writing and electronically.

Promote and support organsational interface for psychological intervention provision (including Universities, commissioners and other providers).

Contribute to the collation and use of data relating to psychological interventions and have responsibility for subsequent improvements required, relating to quality/performance indicators.

Contribute to the reporting, investigating and resolution of incidents, complaints and disciplinary matters to reduce the risk of recurrence.

Provide competency assessment and training of staff/students/volunteers/partner agencies, identify and support development needs of others and support direct reports to develop in their roles to deliver excellent services.

Undertake continuing professional development to maintain confidence and competence, to meet organisational and professional regulator requirements.

Demonstrate the ability to make decisions about treatment options, taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning risk, historical, developmental and cultural processes and systems which have shaped the individual, family or group.

To provide a psychological perspective and psychologically-based framework for understanding and care for multidisciplinary team activities (including clinical care, team dynamics, team organisational systems, promotional activities) within a wide range of settings including MDT meetings, case discussions, team meetings, and group supervision.

  • Accredited Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or its equivalent.
  • Specific expertise in psychological intervention e.g. CBT, DBT, EMDR, motivational interviewing, compassion focussed therapy, neuropsychology and attachment based approaches such as AMBIT.
  • Up-to-date registration with the HCPC.
  • Experience of providing psychological interventions for people who use substances, including those with more complex needs.
  • Sound and demonstrable knowledge of psychological issues relating to problematic substance use, including safeguarding and risk management.
  • Experience facilitating group psychological interventions.
  • Experience of research, audits, performance indicators, incident and complaints management processes.
