Job summary

We have a great opportunity for a Procurement Officer to join our Finance team, based at our head office in Gosforth, working on a hybrid basis

You will be responsible for supporting the management of procurement activities, including; evaluating suppliers, products, and services, negotiating contracts, and ensuring that approved purchases are cost-efficient and of high quality whilst building a sustainable supply chain.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop plans for purchasing equipment, services, and supplies
  • Following and enforcing the company's procurement policies and procedures
  • Maintaining good working relationships with all relevant budget holders
  • Preparing reports on purchases, including cost analysis reports
  • Reviewing, comparing, and analysing products and services to be purchased to present to the relevant budget holders
  • Maintaining records of purchases, pricing, and other supplier contracts
  • Researching and evaluating prospective suppliers.
  • Creating and maintaining good relationships with vendors/suppliers
  • Negotiating the best deal for pricing and supply contracts
  • Ensuring that the products and supplies are of high quality
  • Sustainable supply chain management
  • Maintaining and updating a list of suppliers and their qualifications, delivery times, and potential future development
  • Ensuring due diligence is carried for all new suppliers
  • Supporting and maintaining a purchase order system across the organisation

Main duties of the job

About you

  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) or currently in the process achieving full membership or willingness to complete and work towards MCIPS.
  • General standard of education GCSE or equivalent - Including Mathematics and English.
  • Evidence of continuous personal development (PDP).
  • Experience in a Procurement and Supply Environment.
  • Basic knowledge of procurement principles, sourcing, stock management, negotiating, EU Legislation and Procurement Rules and Systems.
  • Knowledge of e-procurement systems and/or experience of both manual and automated stock control systems
  • Good communication and presentation skills appropriate for a wide range of audiences and interests - good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to function both as a team player and self-motivator.
  • Ability to manage, organise and prioritise own workload and that of others, with the ability to work to strict deadlines.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to think clearly and remain calm under pressure.
  • Good IT skills
