· Would you like to work in a small friendly team of doctors, nurses and chamber technicians giving unrushed care to a small number of patients?
· Would you like opportunities to develop new skills in a world class facility?
We are recruiting a Healthcare Assistant / Assistant Practitioner to join our small friendly team working at our centre in Plymouth. DDRC is a charity and leading hyperbaric centre, commissioned by the NHS. We use our chamber to treat divers with decompression illness but also to treat a range of other diseases such as wounds and problems following radiotherapy. These patients are often complex and highly appreciative of the continuity of care that we provide, with our team treating daily for several months.
We currently treat 3-4 patients a day and have an extraordinarily high staff to patient ratio, allowing unrushed care and the opportunity to get to know our patients well.
If you are keen to join our team then why not arrange a discussion with our Medical Director, Dr Doug Watts via info@ddrc.org and arrange a visit. More details about what we do can be seen on our website www.ddrc.org.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing the patient for treatment, which involves taking clinical observations and checking on their wellbeing and then liaising with and assisting the other clinical and chamber staff. The successful applicant will also be responsible for routine clinical equipment checks and maintaining clinical consumables stock. In addition, there is a weekly MDT and other duties, such as assisting with patient logistics and communicating treatment times.
Full induction and training will be provided as well as ongoing support. The postholder would be encouraged to develop further skills, this might include the opportunity to train as a chamber attendant (ability to pass an HSE diving medical is a prerequisite for this) and the opportunity to join our on-call team to treat diving emergencies out of hours. Other opportunities such as training as a medical technician for occupational medicals are also available and we are keen to invest in the successful applicant.
For this role, the ability to work well in a team and to possess excellent interpersonal skills are key. Previous or ongoing experience of diving, wound care and/or work in an acute environment would be advantageous but not essential.
