Farleigh Hospice is the leading specialist palliative care provider in mid Essex, providing specialist support to patients and their families in both the community via our multidisciplinary locality care teams, and our inpatient unit.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an energetic and inspiring individual with excellent communication skills to join our award-winning education team.
With the expansion of our education and clinical services occurring simultaneously, this is a very exciting time to join the education service at Farleigh Hospice. We are involved in delivering education to local Care Homes, Domiciliary Care Agencies, Community Nursing teams, GPs, Paramedics and other Health Care Providers in the area and across our whole Integrated Care System, as well as a comprehensive programme of education for our own clinical staff. In addition to teaching this diverse audience, both face-to-face and virtually, the Lead Practice Educator will work closely with the Head of Education and Research to design the teaching programme, make new contacts and links with other potential users of our service and assess staff competencies.
As our successful candidate, you will hold a degree in nursing, a specialist qualification /degree in palliative care, and a teaching qualification, with a proven track-record in teaching in similar settings.

To provide education, training and clinical support to health and social care providers, in a variety of organisations/venues, and to promote the acquisition of skills and knowledge of Palliative and End of Life Care
To demonstrate clinical leadership to all levels of clinical staff, and act as a role model at all times, including role modelling specialist practice
To develop links and relationships with key personnel within the hospice and external organisations
To take the lead, in conjunction with the professional lead for nursing, in developing and establishing a professional forum for clinical staff
To keep up to date with current research, evidence-based practice, and current trends
Work autonomously to provide specialist palliative advice and education/training to other health and social care professionals within and outside the hospice and promote evidence-based practice
To provide high quality and effective end of life education at specialist level to staff at Farleigh Hospice and healthcare providers in the wider mid Essex area via face-to-face education sessions and using Zoom technology through a tele-mentoring process called project ECHO and other forms of virtual education
Work in conjunction with the Head of Education and Research in the development of teaching materials, planning and delivery of an end of life education programme to other agencies and organisations, as required
To deputise for the Head of Education and Research in regards to delivery of education, contract management and quality assurance
To lead on introducing changes in practice and latest developments in palliative and end of life care

Qualifications
Essential
- NMC registration
- Degree in Nursing
- Specialist qualification, either Bachelors degree in palliative or end of life care, or post-graduate specialist qualification in related subject, or proven similar experience
- Teaching qualification, either PTLLS, PGCE or similar, or equivalent experience
- Driving license and access to own transport, or ability to travel to multiple venues
Desirable
- Clinical Supervision qualification
- Masters Degree in palliative or end of life care

- Varied post-registration experience in nursing
- Minimum of three years experience in specialist palliative or end of life care
- Proven oral/written communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to learn new skills
- Evidence of significant teaching experience and/or successfully delivering education programmes
