Job summary

As a Residential Support Worker a role working with our Armed Forces veterans would be a hard one to beat. Our veterans have served in every campaign since the First World War, and for over a hundred years our team have been there to support them with their mental health needs.

Main duties of the job

* To work under the supervision of registered nurses. * To support registered nursing staff in the admission and discharge of clients. * To fulfil the role of associate key worker, offering 'assisted self-help' to the veteran in line with their treatment plan and to work as a dynamic and collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team. * Participate effectively in the shift handover meetings and other identified clinical meetings. * To contribute to the whole system treatment planning process, developing, implementing, and evaluating treatment and encouraging and supporting service users to define their treatment needs. To preserve the dignity of clients and their families/carers at all times. * To support the veteran with any personal care needs in line with the treatment plan. * To understand risk in relation to each veteran and have a full working knowledge of not only the risk management policies of the Charity but also each veteran's individual risk management plan. * To co-facilitate psycho-educational, wellbeing and relaxation groups within the hub as designated by the multidisciplinary team. * To support service users with psychosocial activities and to gain new experiences within the local community in line with the treatment plan. * To escort clients to clinic and hospital appointments as required. * To attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary and multi-agency clinical meetings.

You will work with a service user group who have a real motivation to make positive changes to their lives and your experience, compassion and focus on recovery will help them to get there. Experience of working with military and veteran populations would be welcome but it is by no means essential. Your interest, enthusiasm and commitment are more important. You will work within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team and we will work with you to develop your skills and abilities, we know that an investment in you, is an investment in our veterans. You will provide flexible and individualised support to meet the mental health requirements of veterans with mental health needs. Our recovery support workers are essential to the success of Combat Stress. Some key elements of the role will include:

  • Work with the multi-disciplinary team to support veterans on a day-to-day basis with their health and wellbeing and maintain a recovery focus.
  • Supporting nursing staff with admissions and discharges into the residential programme.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, caring and therapeutic environment to facilitate the well-being of the veterans.
