Job summary
A new exiting opportunity has arisen for our PCN to
recruit a further GP Assistant to our existing Team. This role is
predominately to assist the GPs and other clinicians in their daily
administrative duties which may include some minor clinical tasks. The ideal
candidate will be someone with experience of working within General Practice
with either a certificate in Health and Social Care or a GPA Certificate; they
will be well organised, flexible and highly motivated.
Over the next few years, the number of roles is expanding significantly and we are planning on expanding our current PCN team further.

Main duties of the job
A GP Assistant will support the clinicians smooth running of clinics or services by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the clinician freeing up their time to focus on the patient.
The GP Assistants will work closely with the PCN Clinical Director, PCN Managers and other PCN Teams as well as support individual practices within the network to improve data quality. You may be required to travel across the sites, but you will primarily be based within the TABA PCN office, Atherton Library, Bolton Road, Atherton, Greater Manchester, M46 9JH.
About TABA Primary Care Network (PCN):
A primary care network (PCN) consists of groups of general practices working together with a range of local providers, including primary care, community services, social care and the voluntary sector, to offer more personalised, coordinated health and social care to their local populations.
We are 11 practices covering the areas of Tyldesley, Atherton, Boothstown and Astley within Greater Manchester serving over 59,000 patients. We meet together monthly as PCN member practice leads and practice managers to discuss our required developments and plans. Our aim is to provide practices with additional staff that can support practices and provide better care for our patients.

all incoming clinical correspondence, read coding correctly and prioritising actions
for the clinicians.
Manage
appropriate clinicians incoming investigations from ICE
Signposting
some clinical correspondence to other members of the practice and PCN team, such
as clinical pharmacist etc.
Extracting
all information from clinical correspondence and read code appropriately in the
patient healthcare record.
Supporting
the delivery of the collaborative approach to manage all electronic incoming
clinical correspondence
Manage
clinicians Choose & Book Task lists within the online system
Assisting
clinicians by arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up
appointments of patients
Triage
e-consultations as appropriate ensuring prompt and timely action
Preparing
patients prior to seeing the clinician, this may involve taking a brief history
and taking basic readings in readiness for the review.
Helping
the clinician liaise with outside agencies e.g., getting an on-call doctor on
the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with
their consultation(s)
Undertaking
of medical Examiners Reports
Undertaking/preparation
of DWP, DVLA, Insurance forms for final completion by clinicians
Support
with immunisations/wound care where appropriate
Support
the clinicians with some basic clinical activity as appropriate such as dipping
urine samples and ensuring specimens are recorded and ready for onward
transportation to the Laboratory, taking blood pressure readings, checking a
pulse and possibly doing ECGs. (Training will be provided for any clinical
activity that is required).
Other administrative duties may
include, answering
the telephone, dealing with enquiries, meeting and greeting, monitor inboxes
and supporting PCN meetings.
In addition to the
primary responsibilities above, the medical assistant may be requested to:
Participate in practice audits as directed by the PCN Managers to
improve data quality within the PCN
Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient
care
Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation
Attend meetings, taking meeting notes, minute actions and produce
reports
Any other admin related work as provided by PCN
