Job summary

The post holder will provide a phlebotomy service for HMR GP Networks predominantly, on behalf of the RHA GP federation. The service will be delivered in a clinical environment and care homes.

Main duties of the job

To provide a safe, efficient and cost effective service to patients on the Middleton Primary Care Network

To prepare patients/check identity and ensure consent is given to obtain blood samples for laboratory analysis

To display behaviour that justifies public trust and confidence

To maintain confidentiality by adhering to the Caldicott Principles, the Data Protection Act 2018 and GeneralData ProtectionRegulation (GDPR)

To comply with aims and values to improve the service delivered to patients, ensuring the service is led by patient needs

To comply with Health and Safety Policies across the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Borough GP Network and to transfer samples safely to the laboratory

About us

Rochdale Health Alliance (RHA) was established in 2016, by GP practices from across the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Borough, to streamline the way in which services are delivered and to contribute to the development of the wider health and social care provision across the Borough. Heywood, Middleton, and Rochdale Primary Care Academy is part of RHA and develops the primary care workforce, to facilitate the recruitment and retention of well trained and motivated staff.

Job responsibilities

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To provide a safe, efficient and cost effective service to patients on the Middleton Primary Care Network

To prepare patients/check identity and ensure consent is given to obtain blood samples for laboratory analysis

To display behaviour that justifies public trust and confidence

To maintain confidentiality by adhering to the Caldicott Principles, the Data Protection Act 2018 and GeneralData ProtectionRegulation (GDPR)

To comply with aims and values to improve the service delivered to patients, ensuring the service is led by patient needs

To comply with Health and Safety Policies across the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Borough GP Network and to transfer samples safely to the laboratory

To ensure at all times accurate information is recorded when a blood container label is completed and to also keep accurate records of specimens

To deliver a safe and consistent service and participate in regular audit and quality assurance of the equipment used in service delivery

To maintain and excellent standard of service through assessing competence via education, training and skills updates

To adhere to national Infection Control Guidance

To work within infection control standards, both in clinics and domiciliary provision

Adhere to the working protocols and procedures to ensure personal safety

Follow safeguarding protocols in always ensuring patient protection.

As hub reception support you are in a position of trust. You will be the first contact for patients or visitors attending or telephoning the Middleton PCN Hub and along with your colleagues will be expected to maintain an efficient, helpful, and confidential reception service.

Each member of the reception team will have responsibilities assigned to them, sometimes daily, i.e., front desk or telephones, but also on a more permanent basis. Most of the work however must be conducted on a team basis and you and other members of the team will be expected to assist one another when help is needed and take a full part in the general work.

Attend monthly staff meetings

Ensuring all TV screens in waiting rooms are turned on/off at the start and end of each day.

Any other reasonable duties that may be assigned to you by the Business Support Officer at any time.

Training will be given to support receptionist staff becoming care co-ordinators and having additional responsibility in a patients journey.

Front Desk Support (When and if required)

Welcome and record patients arriving to see the Social Prescribing Link Workers, Phlebotomists, Sexual Health service and other services

Making appointments for patients

Signposting patients to the appropriate services

Give out letters / blood forms / registration forms etc.

Help patients wanting to notify change of address or personal details

Answer patient queries

Putting away prescriptions and specimen forms awaiting collection from patients

Tidy waiting area after each morning, afternoon, and evening session

Responding to the needs of clinical and non-clinical staff

Dealing with general enquiries

Accepting deliveries / post and notifying the appropriate person/manager
