Job summary

Multi Location Primary Care Healthcare Assistant working across Heywood, Middleton, and Oldham.

Are you interested in helping to provide greater appointment choice for patients out of standard GP RHA hours?

Extended Access Services provide extended hours NHS medical appointments at a number of GP surgeries across Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale.

Were hiring HCAs currently working in primary care or willing to train to become HCAs and work across the borough to provide extended hours appointments.

Main duties of the job

About The Role:

  • Deal with a range of health care needs in the primary care setting, ensuring the highest standard of care for all registered and out of area patients.
  • Be responsible for the delivery of general RHA nursing care tasks for the whole RHA population.
  • Deliver evidence-based RHA for patients presenting with an immediate care need or a long-term condition, and the provision of preventative health care to the RHA population. Appointments are pre-booked and cross-checked to ensure that they meet your skill set.
  • Demonstrate safe clinical decision-making within your scope of RHA and provide expert care in the management of patients.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the team to meet the needs of patients and support service objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Work within national and local policies and procedures

About us

Rochdale Health Alliance (RHA) was established in 2016, by GP practicesfrom across the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Borough, to streamline the way in which services are delivered and to contribute to the development of the wider health and social care provision across the Borough. Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Primary Care Academy is part of RHA and develops the primary care workforce, in order to facilitate the recruitment and retention of well trained and motivated staff.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Undertake new patient health checks.
  • Undertake patient health checks detailed under specified contract.
  • Support with health promotion programmes.
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately.
  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly.
  • Support with management of chronic disease clinics.
  • Carry out BMI checks as directed.
  • Act as a chaperone as required.
  • When trained, undertake venepuncture.
  • Carry out ECGs as requested when trained.
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.
  • Provide support during minor operations as required.
  • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
  • Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with guidance.
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the RHAIPC policy.
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.
  • Support cover of our extended access provision
