Job summary
Primary Care Network South covers five GP practices in Ackworth, South Elmsall, South Kirkby and Hemsworth which are on the Eastern side of the Wakefield District, collectively serving a patient
population of approximately 63,500.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as an
enthusiastic and forward thinking Pharmacy Technician working closely with a team of eight pharmacists and one other technician.
The successful applicant(s) will work with practices across the PCN
footprint; working closely with the existing clinical teams to deliver
excellent patient care. This role provides fantastic opportunity for working as part of a supportive and friendly team.
The role has the potential to help manage general practice
workload and significantly improve quality of care and safety for patients.
This post is offered as a fixed-term contract until 31 March
2024, matching the current Primary Care Network funding guarantee but
anticipated to continue if this is renewed.
Main duties of the job
The pharmacy technician will work closely with the Clinical Pharmacy Team, under the supervision of the practices' clinical pharmacists and pharmacy team leader to ensure the safe, accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients.
The successful applicant will provide technical and administrative support to the clinical pharmacists and clinicians, supporting the PCN and practices' clinical teams with queries around medication from patients. The pharmacy technician will complete audits around patient safety in the prescribing of medication and present the information for sharing with the clinical team. To liaise with patients, clinical and non-clinical staff, practice, hospital and community pharmacists and patients' carers to improve the pharmaceutical care of patients. To develop the role of the practice Pharmacy Technician to maximise support to all Clinical and Non-clinical practice staff to improve patient care in relation to all aspects of medicines and their impact. To provide professional specialist medicines advice to GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Community Pharmacists, Community Nurses and other health professionals to promote the safe, effective and high quality, cost-effective use of medicines in all prescribing decisions for the benefit of the Practice's patients.

The post holder is a pharmacy technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), with the chosen applicant being an integral part of the general practice team, working within their professional boundaries in each practice within the Primary Care Network (PCN).
This role will work under the supervision of the PCN Clinical pharmacist and the wider practice team supporting them in reaching required targets, audits and ensuring safe and accurate medical records for patients. The applicant will also be required to complete the CPPE Primary Care Pharmacy Education Pathway which will enable them to feel confident in their new role.
