North London Hospice has been the leading provider of end-of-life care in North London since 1984, providing specialist care to patients at home, in the community and on our Inpatient Unit in Finchley. Our mission is to help our patient's live life to the full despite their illness.
As part of our Patient Services Transformation programme, we are currently seeking to recruit a doctor with a special interest and experience in palliative medicine to work on a full time, 12-month fixed term basis; equally providing specialist palliative care to our Hospice In-patient Unit (IPU) and to the community.
The Hospice is home to many diverse departments such as nursing, medical, clinical, cleaning & catering, and our corporate departments such as Marketing and Communications, Finance, People and Fundraising. Alongside these services we also have 18 retail stores across North London playing a vital part in generating money for us so that we can continue doing the work we do. The core to all of this, is our patients and being able to see the difference that we make every day.

Main duties of the job
This is a rewarding opportunity for you to join our dedicated medical and nursing teams within IPU and the Community covering 3 London boroughs (Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey) as we work to provide the best of life, at the end of life, for those who need us most.
The post involves providing medical support to patients and carers under the care of NLH inpatient unit and community team; and providing support and advice to NLH staff and other clinicians within local community services. The on-call commitment is 1 in 5 with 1 in 5 weekends covering the Hospice inpatients and advice to the whole service.

Job responsibilities
Your role will involve:
- Undertaking medical assessment, diagnosis and management of patients in hospice/ /community settings
- Holding your own caseload of complex patients and providing joint assessments and advice to multi-professional team.
- Initiating appropriate medical care and prescribe appropriately in line with Hospice policies and guidelines
- Working alongside other professionals with families in the prevention of bereavement morbidity.
- Attending Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings and case reviews.
- Engaging in clinical governance and quality improvement meetings and activities
To be considered, you will need to have the following:
- Full GMC registration with a Licence to Practice required MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Minimum 4 years full-time at ST1- 2 Grade (at least 2 years experience in Palliative or End of Life Care)
- Membership of Royal College of General Practitioners or Physicians
- Demonstrates breadth of experience & awareness in clinical practice
- Experience and understanding of Quality Improvement methodology and audit in clinical governance
- Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively, verbally and in writing with patients, families & colleagues
- Ability and experience to teach
