Job summary

We are delighted to have the opportunity to advertise this fixed term post of Clinical Fellow in Palliative Medicine to work with the medical team at North London Hospice. It will be based on our in-patient unit and gives an applicant an opportunity to gain experience working in Specialist Palliative Care. The post has arisen due to gaps in a rotational training post.

North London Hospice exists to enable the best of life, at the end of life, for everyone. We work together with our diverse community to provide palliative care and support, when and where it's needed most. We provide tailored, personalised care for more than 3,000 people a year who are living with a life-limiting illness in Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey. We also support their families, friends, and carers.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities include:

Working with the inpatient unit multidisciplinary team.

Undertaking holistic assessments for new admissions and reviews for in patients including initial assessment of diagnosis, symptoms and their cause.

Daily assessment of the degree to which control of pain and other symptoms has been achieved.

Working alongside other professionals with families in the prevention of bereavement morbidity.

Attending Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings.

Participating in the weekend cover rotas with appropriate supervision.

Engaging in clinical governance and quality improvement activities.

Contributing to the training, development of the hospice team and undergraduate and postgraduate multi-professional visitors to the organisation.

Being adaptable to changes in service need, for example providing cover for absent colleagues during periods of annual leave, professional and sick leave.

Participate in appraisal and supervision.

  • Full GMC registration

  • Postgraduate medical degree
