Job summary

The North London Hospice has been providing palliative and end of life care for the communities of North London since 1984.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Registered Nurse to join our friendly Inpatient Unit team providing specialist palliative care to patients with life limiting illnesses in our 18-bedded in-patient unit.

You will act as a senior member of the In-patient Unit palliative care team. You will seek to provide a high standard of holistic, skilled, patient-centred, palliative care to all in-patients. You will assist the Unit Manager/s in supervision and training of junior staff and in service development issues. You will act as shift coordinator as required by leading the team and ensuring good communication from shift to shift.

Whilst the position is site-specific, there may be occasions when required to provide cross-site/service cover.

Main duties of the job

We support our patients and their loved ones to enable them to be cared for in their preferred place of care providing specialist advice to patients professionals, patients and their families. You will need to be committed to providing compassionate, dignified care, have excellent communication skills and variety of experience.

Candidates should have experience of specialist palliative care and supporting people with life limiting conditions which should include a knowledge of symptom control and caring for patients at the end of their lives.

We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse with experience of palliative care, who is a team player, keen to learn and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

You must have some experience of leading a team, have good communication skills and proven organisational skills.
