As part of our passionate and caring team, you will support local patients when they need it the most. You don’t have to be a RGN or have palliative care experience – we also recruit RMN’s and RNLD’s from all backgrounds. Main duties of the job
Working with a designated Preceptor, the Preceptee will be supported in the following areas:
Working in a multidisaplinary team
Medication administration responsibilities
Admission procedures
Care of the patient and family
Aftercare responsibilities for the family and use and care of hospice equipment.
Alongisde receiving a Corporate induction, your Preceptorship Programme will include the following competencies:
An introduction to the holistic care of a patient with pallative care needs
To become familiar with the documentation of care
To be able to correctly complete and update patient assessments and care plans
Understand Information Governance and Confidentiality
To co-ordinate patient care within the 24 hour ward routine
The main duties of this role will be:
To maintain a multi-disciplinary team approach to the individualised care of the patient and maintain high standards of nursing care.
To assess the needs of the patient and their family taking into account their physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs.
To be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating the effectiveness of care given to patients.
To maintain accurate written records of care, communicating all necessary information to other team members.
To maintain strict confidentiality.
To participate fully in the setting, implementation and monitoring of formal standards of practice and to be involved, when required, in clinical governance and audit.
To comply with the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council with regard to Professional Registration and to Post-Registration professional education and revalidation.
Communicate appropriately with all patients, visitors and staff, liaise with other departments and agencies and attend departmental meetings as requested.
Maintain safe custody of the patient’s property/valuables according to Hospice policy.
To participate in research projects as required.
To participate in full rotation across all shifts including nights, weekends and bank holidays.

To maintain a caring and mutually supportive working environment for all members of staff and volunteers, being sensitive to the emotional needs of colleagues and giving appropriate support to them.
To maintain accurate records with regard to the administration and custody of drugs on the unit. To implement all statutory and unit policies relating to drugs.
To maintain high standards of safety within the unit, reporting any hazardous occurrences or equipment.
To report all accidents, incidents, complaints and untoward occurrences, keeping statutory and unit records as required.
To take charge of the inpatient unit with support from senior colleagues following an appropriate period of assimilation.
To observe fire precautions and procedures as outlined in the Hospice Policy.
To welcome both professional and other visitors to the unit.
To observe unit policies on holidays, sickness and absence.
To exercise care and economy in the use of property and equipment.

To attend any training or development required by the Hospice.
To read, understand and follow all Hospice policies and procedures.
To participate in the Annual Performance Review.
To positively promote, support and represent the Hospice especially within the community, and to maintain the philosophy, ethos and ambience.
To be aware of personal responsibilities and discharge these as defined by the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
To maintain strict confidentiality in all matters relating to the Hospice, its business, patients, staff and ethos.
To undertake any other tasks, duties or responsibilities as requested by your Line Manager or other Senior Manager, including the Board of Trustees and Chief Executive.
