Job summary
To work under the direction of the Head Chef to ensure a high quality, customer focussed catering service is delivered to meet the needs of the organisation. To lead on the preparation and service of food on a day to day basis providing direction and guidance for catering assistants.
Main duties of the job
Service Delivery
Preparing, cooking and presenting all food to the highest standard to meet the needs of hospice customers - patients, visitors, staff, volunteers - as well as for functions and fundraising events as requested.
Contributing to and leading the effective day to day delivery of a service to the customer which meets hygiene, health and safety requirements and continuous improvement
Assisting with food ordering, menu planning, stock control etc
Ensuring all temperature monitoring is undertaken and recorded as appropriate with any anomalies dealt with accordingly.
Ensuring all cleaning duties are carried out in accordance with the kitchen cleaning schedule and to an acceptable standard
Undertaking the duties of the Head Cook in their absence
Customer Care
Help to ensure that all customers are satisfied with our service by being friendly and helpful at all times
Provide a prompt and effective response to customer enquiries and complaints ensuring the Head Cook is informed.
Help to ensure that all customers are appropriately catered for by being aware of the needs of those with medical or religious diets.
Business Development
To assist with the development of the service through positive participation in any new ideas and also putting forward your own ideas for improving and developing the service
Team Development
To act as a positive role model providing direction and guidance to Catering Assistants to ensure the service is delivered to the highest standard
Work co-operatively with other members of the catering team, contributing to effective team working and a good team spirit and similarly across all departments.
To comply with all relevant policies and procedures and taking part in training activities to support the development of yourself and the team

Requirements:
A basic food hygiene certificate
A City & Guilds 705 or NVQ qualification (or significant experience in role)
