Job summary

Working as a part of a team of Senior Employment Advisors, you will work closely with mental health workers, partners, and other agencies. The role involves line management of a small team of Employment Advisors including responsibility for implementing relevant aspects of MHM HR policies. Our Talking Therapies service has strong clinical and operational teams, offering skilled support and focusing on clinical and service development and innovative practice.

Main duties of the job

You will have experience of working within employment and knowledge of employment rights, job retention is also a key component. You will demonstrate an ability to prioritise a diverse workload and manage this effectively. You will understand the principles of the Equalities Act 2010 and how it relates to employment rights. You will be educated to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in the areas of Advice and Guidance, Health and Social Care or Customer Service. An awareness and/or experience of working with people who have experienced mental health issues would be an advantage. You will be able to demonstrate the skills and abilities needed to help others identify and overcome employment barriers. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate a proactive and highly motivated attitude. The role will include travel across the area and access to your own transport is essential (relevant expenses will be paid).

Job responsibilities

Main Duties of the post: * Responsible for leading, managing and coaching a team of Employment Advisors to ensure the effective and professional delivery of all work focused and none work focused interventions. * Draw on specialist knowledge within the employment sector to ensure the effective delivery of fully comprehensive and accessible employment service in locality * Proactively keeps skills and knowledge of area of expertise up to date including being informed of relevant employment legislation and changes to the benefit system. * Deputise for the Area Manager where required. * Provide a safe and effective service, managing referrals into the service, delivering on targets and outcomes tailored to the specific NHS Talking Therapies service including; clinical need, clinical risk, clinical hours (including where possible at least one out of hours clinic) and safeguarding responsibilities. * Work towards the wider objectives set by the organisation and commissioning bodies. * Leading the work in developing knowledge, good working relationships and effective links with external stakeholders including; secondary care mental health services, social service departments, local Chambers of Commerce, employers, trade unions, Job Centre Plus, colleges, Access to Work; as well other supporting organisations (such as food poverty organisations, debt advice organisations, legal advice providers, social prescribers, etc.). * Attend SEA National and Regional Forums, representing the service and Mental Health Matters, sharing discussions held with colleagues and 2 Job Title Director of People and OD Version V2 Review Date June 2025 implementing any new initiatives discussed. * Deliver training on employment and mental health to stakeholders, including for example workshops to employers on improving employee mental health and wellbeing. * Responsible for managing individual's risk through; Assessing individual's based on the Talking Therapies initial assessment and decisions of eligibility for the employment service, advising and leading Employment Advisors on individual's risk presentation and safeguarding concerns; and acting as the first point of escalation for CRM risk and team's personal safety devices. * Conduct and document risk assessments for service users entering service or during a review in service. * Conduct and document site risk assessments for the service. * Proactively supporting the process of generating demand for the service. * Monitor, collate and analysing service activity, providing reports to inform the evaluation of the service against contracted targets for the service. * To be responsible for ensuring overall performance is achieved and reported in line with local and nationally agreed targets. * Participate in audits of clinical activity and evaluative research as required. * Carry an appropriate caseload, likely to consist of individuals who have complex employment difficulties. * Management of contractual budget including support for Area Manager in setting yearly budgets and reforecast, monitoring in year expenditure and identifying and implementing initiatives to make cost savings against contracted budget. * Provide proactive support and specialist advice on employment to the Business Team for new and retenders, highlighting any organisational opportunities or risks. * Supporting the mobilisation of projects and services. * Ensure that services meet the needs of all service users in line with MHM policy, best practice standards and equality legislation. * To ensure the Area Manager is fully informed of any issues which may affect the quality of service provision. * Ensure full implementation and compliance of MHM policies and procedures and provide feedback on their effectiveness * To actively promote a positive image of MHM. NHS Talking Therapies service integration * Be a part of the relevant NHS Talking Therapies Management teams * Work with senior clinicians including Clinical Leads, to lead on the promotion and integration of employment support into the NHS Talking Therapies service and stepped care model, to ensure that therapists and Employment Advisors collaborate effectively and that employment support is fully embedded in services and central concern of every colleague in the service. * Work in collaboration with senior colleagues internally and externally to develop and maintain effective referral pathways between Talking Therapies and employment support services and providers. * Lead the support and advice given to therapists, GPs, and other primary care workers in making appropriate referrals and understanding the service offer. * Responsibility for the development of the PWP and HIT (Talking 3 Job Title Director of People and OD Version V2 Review Date June 2025 Therapies clinical colleagues) induction training and working closely with the Talking Therapies service to integrate employment support training as part of the wider induction as well as the ongoing training and development of colleagues. * Support therapists, GPs and other primary care workers in making appropriate referrals and in carrying out the employment aspects of their own roles. * Support and promote the use of employment interventions including referrals, supporting with action planning regarding employment. Management and Development * Accountable and responsible for the professionalism of the Employment Advisors, ensuring they provide a personalised service to those accessing the service. * Ensure agreed case loading is achieved and maintained for each Employment Advisor, so that each member of the team achieves the required standard of productivity and effectiveness * Fully accountable and responsible for the management of service resources through recruitment, retention and induction, budgetary control, and service performance data to ensure an appropriate compliment of Employment Advisors delivering at appropriate service levels in line with NHS Talking Therapies Manual recommendations. * Undertake all aspects of team management, including; recruitment, performance management, induction, and training and wellbeing support. * Undertake appropriate supervision and case load review on a regular basis in accordance with the relevant professional guidelines and policies. * Coach and enable Employment Advisors to foster innovative working methods to be successful in helping individuals find, return or remain in employment. * Ensure Employment Advisors maintain appropriate clinical records and outcome data in keeping with service operational policy * Delegate work appropriately to Employment Advisors to further team objectives and individual development. * Ensure that Employment Advisors engage with their own CPD accessing internal and externally sourced training and/or qualifications where identified. * Design, update and implement interventions, materials, processes, and procedures for the team while ensuring adherence to MHM service policies. * To undertake disciplinary and grievance investigations using the organisations procedures when required.
