Job summary

The role involves lone working with clients on a one-to-one basis through phone calls, video calls or face to face in community location. We are looking for individuals who aspire to work in Mental Health and Employment Support. You will be working in partnership with the local Talking Therapies Service to provide employment support to those who have mild to moderate anxiety and or depression. Your role will involve supporting individuals to gain employment, retain current employment and return to work after a period of absence. This could be to help with job retention, liaison with employers or assisting people in finding and keeping paid or voluntary work. It is important to understand the principles of the Equalities Act and how it relates to Employment Rights.

Employment Advisor Durham 37.5 hours per week - 3 Posts £25,958 per annum with progression up to £28,662 per annum Fixed Term: 31.03.2026 Based: Hybrid - Split between home and community-based working with travel across Central Durham and East Durham & Dales, relevant expenses will be paid. You will liaise with Talking Therapies PWPs, HITs and external agencies such as Job Centre Plus and community providers. A driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable due to the community element of this role. About you: You will have experience of working with Mental Health and will be able to inspire and engage people and can identify barriers and understand client needs, while possessing excellent motivational skills. This will include supporting people within the employment sector, with knowledge of employment rights and job retention being advantageous. Working within a multi-disciplinary team, you will be able to demonstrate your experience in delivering results through your assessment, planning and facilitating of activities that focus on recovery and vocational skills. You will understand working with people with a variety of complex needs including mental health, your knowledge of working within a community-based service is essential and will have equipped you with the relevant communication and interpersonal skills required for the role. Although not essential, it would be beneficial for you to have knowledge of employment law, the principles of the Equalities Act 2010 and how it relates to employment rights. You will be educated to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in the areas of Advice and Guidance, Health and Social Care or Customer Service. An awareness and/or experience of working with people who have experienced mental health issues would be an advantage.
