Job responsibilities
The Rotherham Safe Space offers free mental health support in a welcoming, comfortable, non-judgmental, and non-clinical environment.
Our experienced team provide emotional, social and practical support for individual who are in crisis or feel they are heading toward a crisis situation.
Those requiring support can attend the service for a chat, or to access one-to-one emotional support, group discussions, workshops, and activities designed to support an individual with managing their mental health and wellbeing.
About the role:
As a Crisis Outreach and Service Promotion Volunteer, you will play a key role in raising awareness of Rotherham Safe Space by identifying local promotion opportunities, helping to create promotional materials, and distributing these across identified areas within Rotherham.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify opportunities to promote the service, such as through local events, partnerships, and community networks.
Assist in creating promotional materials (e.g. flyers, posters, social media content) in collaboration with the Rotherham Safe Space team.
Distribute promotional materials across key areas in Rotherham, such as local businesses, community centres and public spaces.
Attend community events or meetings to represent the service and raise awareness.
Provide regular feedback to the Rotherham team on the success of the
promotional activities and suggest areas for improvement.
If applicable, share your own personal experiences to inspire others and highlight the
benefits of the service.
Time Commitment:
2-4 hours per month, depending on the promotional activities and events.
Skills and Qualifications:
Strong communication and networking skills.
Enthusiasm for promoting services and engaging with the community.
Knowledge of the local area and where to promote the service most effectively.
Proactive attitude and a willingness to engage with community members and
organisations.

Flexibility
We understand our volunteers may live busy lives, and respect their boundaries in relation to the hours they can commit. Ideally, we look for volunteers who can contribute to one session a week in their chosen role, but will always try to be flexible in fitting around other commitments!

Professional development
You will receive a comprehensive induction into MHM, which includes high-quality training (either individually or as a group, face-to-face or e-learning modules). We also encourage volunteers to take advantage of our extensive range of e-learning modules available to anyone who works with us. You will get invaluable work experience whilst volunteering and we will support you with ongoing supervision and support as and when needed, as well as the opportunity to receive professional references (after you've been with us for 3 months). Many of our volunteers are even encouraged to apply to join us more officially in paid roles!
Reimbursement
We don't expect our volunteers to be out of pocket whilst travelling to and from our services and as such will provide reasonable travel expenses of up to £5 a day
