If
you are a qualified High Intensity Therapist or a Cognitive Behavioural
Therapist and can provide evidence of working with people who have experience a
mental health problem, then we have an exciting opportunity for you.
Main duties of the job
As a
High Intensity Therapist you will help people with anxiety and depression to
achieve a level of recovery which will improve their overall wellbeing and day
to day life.
Please
note that this service operates between the hours of 8am and 8pm Monday to
Friday, therefore applicants must be available to work outside of normal
working hours, which will be agreed with the Line Manager.
About
you
You
will also be able to demonstrate an understanding of how anxiety and depression
present in Primary Care. Please note if
you are due to qualify shortly, your application will be considered however a
university transcript of progress to date will be required.
Please
note, if you are currently undertaking the Trainee High Intensity Course, you
must be able to provide proof, from your academic institution, of successful
completion of assessments to date prior to commencing in post.

Responsible to: Service Manager
Reporting to: Spoke Lead
Duties to include:
- Accept referrals via agreed
protocols within the service
- Assess clients for suitability for
Low Intensity Interventions and CBT
- Make decisions on suitability of
new referrals, adhering to the departments /relevant partners referral
protocols, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back
to the referral agent as necessary.
- Formulate, implement and evaluate
therapy programmes for clients.
- Educate and involve family members
and others in treatment as necessary, conveying CBT formulations with
sensitivity in easily understood language.
- Adhere to an agreed activity
contract relating to the number of client contacts offered, and clinical
sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and
ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.
- Attend multi-disciplinary meetings
relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate.
- Complete all requirements relating
to data collection within the service.
- Keep coherent records of all
clinical activity in line with service protocols
- Work closely with other members of
the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in
place to maintain a stepped care approach.
- Assess and integrate issues
surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process
- Carry out clinical audits of
service performance, including service user surveys and evaluations, and
help to collate and disseminate the results for feedback.
TRAINING
AND SUPERVISION
- Attend and fulfil all the
requirements of the IAPT approved supervision training.
- After completion of supervision
training, supervise staff in the service.
PROFESSIONAL
- Ensure the maintenance of standards
of practice according to the employer and any regulating, professional and
accrediting bodies (eg BPS, UKCP,
BABCP), and keep up to date on new recommendations/guidelines set by the
department of health (e.g NHS plan, National Service Framework, National
Institute for Clinical Excellence).
- Ensure that client confidentiality
is protected at all times.
- Be aware of, and keep up to date
with advances in the spheres of CBT and other agreed psychological therapies.
- Ensure clear professional
objectives are identified, discussed and reviewed with senior therapists
on a regular basis as part of continuing professional development.
- Attend clinical/managerial
supervision on a regular basis as agreed with Manager.
- Participate in individual
performance review and respond to agreed objectives.
- Keep up to date all records in
relation to C.P.D. and ensure personal development plan maintains up to
date specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service delivery
models/developments.
- Attend relevant conferences /
workshops in line with identified professional objectives.

- e.g. A recorded/registered doctoral level qualification in clinical or counselling psychology/ a recorded/registered qualification in one of the following - nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or a psychological therapy plus further post graduate qualification training in a psychological therapy which may be CBT or another IAPT appropriate evidence based therapy (i.e. IPT) to at least equivalent of a post graduate diploma
- AND
- Significant experience working as a psychological therapy practitioner and demonstrating the competences as required.
Desirable
- Relevant experience in Primary Care treating anxiety and depression.
- Low Intensity PWP qualification/Graduate Mental Health Worker with experience of working within an IAPT service.
