Main duties of the job
The role of a Deputy Clinical Lead involves supporting the Clinical Lead and Service Manager in the development and delivery of high quality, responsive, accessible and evidence based psychological services for adults in primary care mental health. This involves an IAPT and non IAPT care pathway. Additionally, you will have responsibility for managing the step 4a waiting list.
Do you have a suitable professional qualification and post graduate CBT qualification and a second therapeutic modality? If you have we are seeking individuals who have relevant clinical experience and/or training.
You must be able to demonstrate the ability to work within a high volume, performance managed service, manage your own caseload and time and be an effective communicator both in written and verbal communication.

Job responsibilities
Duties to include:
- To assist and support the Clinical Lead in providing effective clinical management of the service.
- To work with the local NHS Trusts, primary and secondary care services to provide a seamless experience of care for service users.
- Ensure the delivery of national and local performance targets for the SPA, IAPT and Step 4 services.
- To clinically hold a small caseload in order to role model a high quality psychology service to clients with moderate to complex mental health problems.
- To lead on specific projects, as identified by the Clinical Lead and/or Service Manager.
- To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of MHM and WPCPS service policies and procedures.
- To provide clinical advice to other service practitioners on client care.
- To ensure all practitioners within the service receive regular, high quality clinical supervision.
- Attend weekly MDT meetings with the local secondary care trust and make decisions on appropriate and inappropriate referrals.
- To assist the Clinical Lead with stepping up/down decisions.
- Provide full Clinical Leadership during Clinical Lead absence.
Clinical
- Responsible for the autonomous provision of specialist psychological therapy including CBT to service users experiencing a range of complex mental health problems including PTSD, OCD, Depression, Anxiety and other mental health problems. Working to NICE guidelines for Depression, OCD, PTSD, Anxiety and other mental health problems classified under clusters 0-8 which may include secondary care non CPA patients.
- The provision of clinical supervision for High Intensity practitioners both trainee and qualified.
- The personal provision of advice and clinical leadership to carers, other professions, and agencies providing support for the client.
- Maintenance of professional standards, codes of conduct and good clinical governance.
- Demonstrate highly advanced analytical and judgement skills.
- Good relationships with partner organisations including voluntary, non-statutory and private sector organisations.
- Effective liaison for other staff who may not hold a clinical qualification.
- To maintain professional accreditation with relevant professional body e.g. BABCP and attending training to maintain psychological skills including CBT and competencies, as appropriate.
- To exercise professional responsibility for the assessment, intervention and discharge of clients, using highest level of interpersonal and communication skills. including the full range of Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) data set requirements and ADSMs making use of Data management systems
- Provide specialised input to service development of CBT and evidenced based therapies and be familiar with other modalities of therapy.
- To keep adequate clinical records in accordance with organisational guidelines, the BABCP or professional regulatory bodies and DH guidance
Clinical Governance
- To implement and maintain the principles of Clinical Governance, including risk management.
- To ensure the development, maintenance and dissemination of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, with agreement of with the Clinical Lead and Service Manager.
- To participate actively in own clinical supervision as per professional requirements of registration body and best clinical practice.
- Taking part in own regular management supervision and appraisal.
- Maintaining an active engagement with current evidence-based developments within the remit of IAPT.
- To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of relevant professional bodies, MHM policies and procedures.
- To maintain up to date knowledge of national and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health.
- To work within the Code of Ethics and the relevant professional practice guidelines of the BABCP or other relevant professional bodies, the Caldicott principles and the Data Protection Act.
Clinical Leadership
- Assist the clinical lead in meeting all of the service key objectives.
- Manage and lead on specific pieces of work/projects as identified by the Clinical Lead and/or Service Manager.
- To provide support to local leadership in managing change.
- To work effectively with the Clinical Lead and Operational Managers to provide strong leadership and effective clinical management and leadership for the service.
- Ensure that effective procedures are in place to allow the delivery of a responsive service that fully meets the relevant needs of clients and their families within the area.
- Ensure the service has strong and effective links with other relevant services within the locality, including representing the service at appropriate inter-agency groups.
- Ensure there are appropriate and effective systems to enable communication across the service and to ensure clinical innovations and effective practice are shared and regular feedback is gathered, considered and acted on where appropriate.
- Ensure the production of an annual audit plan as per Clinical Lead guidance.
- Ensure that systems to support quality Clinical Governance arrangements are in place within the service, and that these are adhered to and regularly reviewed.
- Deal with all complaints and serious untoward incidents promptly, sensitively.
