Main duties of the job

You will undergo training to gain the skills needed to undertake, plan and co-ordinate the delivery of low intensity interventions to support the mental health needs of children from 5 to 18 years and their families under the supervision of senior staff. This may include guided self-help or computerised CBT as well as one-to-one work and small groups. This work may be face to face, telephone or via other media. There needs to be a coherent record of all clinical activity in line with service protocols.

You will complete a mental health assessment to ensure the suitability of the child or young person for a low intensity intervention and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or step-up the young persons treatment to another form of psychological therapy. A part of this assessment is the need to conduct risk assessments and act accordingly, with support, to agreed protocols for managing risk.

You will also need to meet performance targets and data collection in relation to all aspects of service delivery. This will involve taking cases to supervision on a regular basis. You will work with other CWP's as well as the wider multidisciplinary team

To undertake any other duties as requested by line manager.

Upon qualification, you will be part of a preceptorship year which is further supported development. Once qualified all CWPs are required to apply for BABCP PWP registration which has a yearly cost.

This very supportive team of people from different professional backgrounds works together to ensure that children and young people from 0-18 receive the support they need.

SCCAYPMHS aim to deal with such difficulties at the earliest possible stage of intervention in the hope that children and young people will develop skills and resilience to promote positive well-being, thus minimising the risk of further distress.

In addition, we have a senior CWP whose role is to further the CWP role and encourage and assist both qualified and trainee CWP's. We also offer a comprehensive range of supervision, both one-to-one and in a small group.
