Job summary

An exciting opportunity for a qualified PCE CfD Supervisor you will be employed by Sunderland Counselling Service but based within the Northumberland Talking Therapies service, providing Talking Therapies compliant supervision for counsellors working at step 3 of the stepped care model. They will be expected to work as an integral part of the clinical management team in the service. The post holder will be supported by regular supervision and operational line and case management provided by Sunderland Counselling Service. It is a permanent position subject to a successful probationary period of six months. The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities. An enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service will be required for this post.

The post holder may be called upon to use a personal means of transport while engaged in the work of the service for which travel expenses will be available.

The post holder will be entitled to 9 days annual leave at normal salary rate or pro rata for part of a year. In addition, a pro rata entitlement to all statutory public holidays will be given at a normal salary rate. This post may allow for some home working but will also require a regular visible presence in Northumberland Talking Therapies bases and engagement with the clinical and operational management structures of the service.

Main duties of the job

Provide Talking Therapies compliant PCE CfD supervision to staff working as counsellors for Sunderland Counselling Service, specifically based within the Northumberland Talking Therapies service.

HS Northumberland Talking Therapies(formerly known as Talking Matters Northumberland)offers free psychological treatment for people aged 16 and over who have a GP in Northumberland. We offer one-to-one talking therapy for depression, anxiety, stress, and other mental health related problems. We also offer Couples Therapy for Depression.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Provide supervision in both face to face and remote formats, as agreed with the SCS Clinical Lead and NTT Clinical Lead; as a guide, at least 50% of supervision is expected to be delivered in person.

Support supervisees to adhere to session limits and models as defined by the service and to achieve service-related performance measures.

Support supervisees to work from the assessment of a TT colleague to develop realistic therapy goals with clients to manage the issues and associated problems that are affecting their mental and emotional well-being.

Support supervisees to make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the services referral protocols, referring unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary, or step the persons treatment to another modality if required.

Support supervisees to use clinical supervision effectively and to improve competencies in clinical practice, including linking in with service management where appropriate.

Complete accurate and appropriate supervision notes on agreed case management systems such as IAPTus.

Where appropriate support the service and staff in obtaining necessary accreditation and Talking Therapy compliant qualifications.

Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment where appropriate.

Attend meetings of the NTT clinical management team as required by the NTT Clinical Lead.

Ensure the safety and consistency of counselling services provided by Sunderland Counselling Service including Northumberland Talking Therapies.

Keep coherent records of clinical activity in line with service protocols and BACP supervision note keeping requirements

Work closely with other members of the NTT clinical team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.

Operate at all times from an inclusive values base which promotes recovery and recognizes and respects diversity.

Ensure ethical practice is observed within Northumberland Talking Therapies and across Sunderland Counselling Service as an organisation and raise any issues and concerns with service management where appropriate.

Provide assurance to service management of the safety, consistency and effectiveness of services provided.

Support counsellors in the management of risk at referral, assessment, and counselling stages.

Attend regular supervisors meetings with the wider supervision team at Sunderland Counselling Service.

If required by Northumberland Talking Therapies, provide counselling supervision for volunteer / trainee counsellors, and liaise with training providers concerning the progress of student counsellors working on placement.

Observe and work according to clinical and operational policies and procedures set by Northumberland Talking Therapies, including but not limited to data security & protection, confidentiality, risk management, safeguarding.

Working as part of the larger team within NTT, participate in team development, training and regular supervision sessions.

Be accountable for personal conduct and professional standards of practice in relation to all relevant legislation and statutory obligations, including the Children Act, Family Law Act, Health and Safety at Work, Equal Opportunities, local Safeguarding procedures.

Ensure that client confidentiality is protected at all times in line with NTT policies.

  • Qualified to Degree, MSc, MA, or Diploma level in Counselling
  • Qualification in Talking Therapies compliant form of counselling therapy, specifically PCE- Counselling for Depression.
  • Qualification in a Talking Therapies compliant supervision modality, specifically Supervision of PCE Counselling for Depression.
  • Training in risk assessment.

Desirable

  • First training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, or another relevant disciple.
  • Psychology or other health related undergraduate degree.
  • Psychology or other health related postgraduate degree
