Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Sunderland Counselling Service for an energetic individual who holds a post graduate diploma in low intensity CBT with children and young people, with experience of undertaking, planning and delivering low intensity psychological interventions. This post is to work with children from birth to 18 and their families.

The post holder will be working in a Community CAMHS locality base within Sunderland. The post holder will be engaged in the delivery and development of the service and will work with children and young people whose lives are, or have been, affected by events to such a level that it impacts upon their emotional and mental well-being.

Main duties of the job

To undertake, plan and co-ordinate the delivery of low intensity interventions to support the mental health needs of children from birth to 18 years and their families. This is alongside other childrens workers from health, childrens services and the voluntary sector under the supervision of senior staff. This may include guided self-help or computerised CBT. This work may be face to face, telephone or via other media. There needs to be a coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols.

To complete a mental health assessment to ensure the suitability of the child or young person for a low intensity intervention, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or step-up the young persons treatment to another form of psychological therapy.A part of this assessment is the need to conduct risk assessments and act accordingly, with support, to agreed protocols for managing risk. This may include attendance at multi agency meetings.

To meet performance targets and data collection in relation to all aspects of service delivery. This will involve taking cases to supervision on a regular basis.

Ensure that client confidentiality is protected at all times.

To undertake any other duties as requested by line manager.

About us

You will be line managed through Sunderland Counselling Service an independent local charity that has been established for over 30 years. It has a strong person centred ethic, and has grown into one of the leading IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) providers for mental health across the North East of England. You will not be employed by the NHS.

Although you will be line managed through Sunderland Counselling Service you will be working as part of an integrated Community CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) team, following all of their policies and procedures. This very supportive team of people from different professional backgrounds works together to ensure that children and young people from 0-18 receive the support they need.

Community CAMHS aim to deal with such difficulties at the earliest possible stage of intervention in the hope that children and young people will develop skills and resilience to promote positive well-being, thus minimising the risk of further distress.

  • Postgraduate certificate in Child and Young Person Low Intensity Psychological Interventions
  • A willingness to undergo further training appropriate to job development.

Desirable

  • Psychology or other health and social care related undergraduate degree.
