Main duties of the job

· To provide portering duties for the Hospital

· Provide support to all other departments

· Provide Security in the hospital

· Provide assistance for any task that may be required

· Respond to all alarms that may activate during your working duties

· To be responsible for the porterage of clinical waste and sharps bins from the Clinical Departments, and its safe disposal, according to the Environmental Protection (Duty of Care) Regulations 1991 (including 2003 Amendment) and Hospital Policy.

· To assist with patient movements as requested by Clinical Staff.

· To complete a nightly round of the interior of the building to ensure that:- all windows and doors are secure.

To carry out minor maintenance tasks, and to assist with painting, decorating and ground works

· To be aware of the Hospital’s fire policy and the workings of the fire panel, assisting the Fire Department if required should they be called out.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The job holder will work primarily within the hospital with occasional visits to and meetings at other hospitals or centralised function offices.

· Assist in providing a safe environment for the safety and welfare of the patients and staff by being aware of:-

o Health and Safety at Work Act

o Fire Prevention and Management (awareness of Hospital requirements)

o Infection Control

o C.O.S.H.H.

· To be aware of the presence of outside contractors and accompany them to the designated work area, ensuring that the ‘Visitors’ policy is adhered to, including ‘Permit to Work’ form if required.
