Job summary
The overall purpose of the North Kirklees Lung Cancer Screening
Programme is to enable the early detection of lung cancer in order to save
lives. North Kirklees has been identified as an area of high disease prevalence
where significant impact can be made from the recognition of early stage lung
cancer & offering curative treatment.
The post holder will be expected to carry out a thorough
lung health assessment using appropriate screening tools, undertake spirometry (full
training provided), general patient observations and health promotion
interventions. Referral as appropriate for low dose CT scanning and to local
smoking cessation services.
Main duties of the job
Below indicates the main competencies required of the post which may
be reviewed in light of the experience and developments within the service. Any
review will be taken in conjunction with the post holder.
Lung Health Check Specific duties:
Work autonomously
Provide nurse led
clinics.
Ability to provide health promotion and brief smoking
cessation advice.
Skills to use screening tools and risk
stratification
Ability to undertake spirometry at ARTP level or
willingness to undertake training.
Knowledge of System 1
Referral for low dose CT scanning
Engage in audit and/or information collection.

Essential
- Registered Nurse
- Evidence of relevant post qualification study at postgraduate level or equivalent knowledge.
Desirable
- -Spirometry training at ARTP level.
- -Respiratory qualification
Experience
Essential
- Nurse Minimum 3 years at Band 5 in the relevant setting
- Evidence of working independently Participating in audit/patient surveys Evidence of managing within a clinical area
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary / interdisciplinary team.
- Awareness of national programme
- Evidence of relevant CPD
- Awareness of the Clinical Governance agenda.
- Experience of working in a primary care setting
