Job summary

Dougie Mac are currently looking to recruit senior staff nurses who share our passion in providing excellent, personalised and compassionate care to patients and their families within our In-Patient unit.

Main duties of the job

The right candidate will possess excellent communication and organisational skills, a motivation for continual learning and sharing of knowledge, with the drive to ensure our patients receive the highest possible standard of care! You'll ensure timely, responsive & high-quality service is maintained and well organised for patients, their families and visitors to the hospice. Providing clinical expertise, staffing co-ordination and be in charge of the inpatient unit in the absence of the Head of IPS and Team Leaders. You’ll take responsibility for creating and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring high quality standards of care are maintained

Job responsibilities

Job Summary:

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, without supervision, and may be required to teach other nursing and non-nursing staff.

Tasks incorporated into the nursing function within the Scope of Professional Practice for the post, must be performed at the determined standard which shall be maintained and monitored.

To implement the Hospice Philosophy of ensuring the optimum quality of life for all patients.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. To assess patients individual needs.

2. To develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care reporting to senior staff if needed.

3. To provide and maintain a high standard of skilled nursing care.

4. To work within the agreed nursing procedures.

5. To participate in measuring the quality of service provision by the use of audit mechanisms.

6. The post holder will at all times be personally accountable for professional and ethical actions, ensuring compliance with the NMC Code of Conduct; failure to do so will be viewed as a disciplinary matter.

7. To take charge of the In-patient Services in the absence of both the Head of IPS and deputies.

8. To coordinate, supervise and organise work as appropriate for all teams on the IPS, organising skill mix, allocations.

9. To conduct appraisals for staff nurses supporting the senior team.

10. To take a supportive role in incident management alongside the senior IPS team.

11. To ensure the hospice policies and procedures are implemented by all staff on the IPS.

12. To comply with relevant statutory/Department of Health Directives.

13. To promote effective communication with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure total patient care is delivered on the IPS.
