Job summary

Dougie Mac is looking for a Senior Business & Community Fundraiser to join its busy fundraising team. Having recently amalgamated The Donna Louise Trust into our existing adult hospice, fundraising will be increasingly important to the success of our portfolio of care which now includes providing care services across two sites and within the community to children, young adults and adults.

Joining at this hugely exciting time, you will manage business and community based fundraising relationships and activities within a specified geographical catchment area. With the aim to nurture existing relationships and develop new support this role will bolster income objectives and income growth. You will also be responsible for leading on a number of fundraising events, providing an excellent supporter journey and working hard to maintain longevity and retention of donors. You will be part of a small team who all share the same vision that aligns with the objectives for income achievement.

Main duties of the job

The right candidate will possess excellent communication and organisational skills, a motivation for achieving pre-determined targets with the ability to understand the needs of our supporters and adapting asks and supporter care journeys accordingly. We are looking for somebody with a proactive, can do attitude with passion and enthusiasm to drive our fundraising opportunities forward.

The Fundraising Team is responsible for maximising income generating opportunities by facilitating relationships with businesses, schools & individual supporters across the community, engendering donations & ensuring strong supporter care with the aim to maximise support across all Income Generation streams. In addition; the team is responsible for the organisation & delivery of a portfolio of business & community fundraising events & campaigns.

Responsibilities include planning, organising & marketing all aspects of fundraising projects in line with the Hospices Fundraising strategy & vision. The post holder will work to raise money at an agreed return on investment, ensuring the quality of donor relationships are at the highest possible levels, whilst maximising every fundraising opportunity from all types of existing & potential new donors.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Working both onsite and out in the community; facilitate approaches from all businesses, individuals & schools within a given regional area where an intention to raise money for the hospice is made, providing an excellent donor experience that delivers high end results.

2. Develop & maintain an in-depth knowledge of the allocated regional fundraising area, including the businesses, schools & community activities within the region.

3. Research & develop new support from businesses, individuals & schools within the region. Encourage businesses & schools to choose Dougie Mac as their Charity of the Year.

4. Maintain relationships within businesses & schools & with their decision makers to ensure participation & engagement levels both from the business & via staff/pupil engagement is at maximum capacity.

5. Ensure quality donor relationships are established & maintained to the benefit of the hospice and to the satisfaction of the donor(s), ensuring that our portfolio of fundraising products are promoted effectively & that KPIs set by the Head of Fundraising & Lottery for our fundraising products are achieved.

6. Guide & advise businesses, individuals & school supporters to engage in fundraising activities using our portfolio of fundraising products. Also utilise & consider all income generation offers such as payroll giving, Dougie Banks, lottery products, stock for our retail shops (not an exhaustive list).

7. Project manage agreed fundraising events, campaigns and initiatives to generate income for Dougie Mac. Ensuring delivery of the agreed annual budget as a minimum & wherever possible exceed & create opportunities for year on year growth.

8. This will necessitate the planning of the event/campaign, recruitment of participants, securing sponsorship, securing non-monetary gifts/service & attending the event where appropriate.

9. Ensure all relevant on the day plans for fundraising events are in place, including risk assessments, management of staff & volunteers as well as well-defined staff & volunteer roles & briefings.

10. Use project planner templates to support the organisation of events & campaigns, using a methodical approach to all tasks that need to be achieved to ensure the success of each fundraising activity.

11. Responsible for raising funds by recruiting, inspiring & developing support for the hospice through sports & challenge fundraising activities such as London Marathon, Potters Arf, Wing Walks, Sky Dives etc.

12. Assist the Supporter Hub with the retention of the number of collection tin sites within the regional area & identify new outlets where collection tins can be placed. Undertake emergency collection tin visits as advised by the Supporter Hub (when the collection tin volunteer is not available) & seek opportunities where appropriate to bring in full/near full collection tins & issue replacement tins.

13. Monitor & evaluate both the financial & overall performance of income streams against targets & take recovery & remedial action as appropriate. Undertake analysis & research to assist with decision-making & improve working practices.

14. Responsible for production & distribution of required fundraising marketing materials to promote fundraising initiatives. Ensure all materials used; both traditional & digital are correct & conform to internal brand guidelines & content standards as well as meeting external legal requirements. Ensure the most competitive price for printed items, ensuring hospice policies & procedures regarding procurement are adhered to at all times.

15. Ensure collaborative working within internal departments to include the generation of leads, maximising promotion opportunities & maintain an integrated & well-organised approach.

16. Deal with interruptions to a daily work programme arising from visits, telephone calls & emails to the fundraising department, ensuring that deadlines are met; donor/volunteer expectations are managed & income is raised to the time expended is appropriate.

17. From time to time, the need may arise to speak in public, representing the hospice & address groups of people as an integral part of the role, off site & outside normal working hours.

18. Maintain comprehensive supporter records using our in-house supporter database, using the database effectively for the purpose of analysis. Keeping stand alone spreadsheets & personal records are not acceptable practice.

19. Utilise the skills & services of our Supporter Hub who are available to provide administrative support to all of our fundraising initiatives.

20. Promote Gift Aid as an additional source of revenue both face to face & over the telephone ensuring all processes are adhered to & that Gift Aid opportunities are maximised at all times.

21. Receive & record donations & gifts (monetary & non-monetary) & adhere to procedures, ensuring the issue of a receipt & the safe provision of money etc. Also to record outcomes on the hospice data management system Donorflex & update procedural logs. Ensure safe transit of the donations to the relevant department.

22. Adhere to GDPR & other data management compliance across all relevant activity & be knowledgeable of sector regulations & legal requirements. Always promote fundraising in ways that are legal, open, honest & respectful.

23. Utilise & motivate volunteers who assist the Fundraising Team to best effect, to achieve goals & objectives & to support minimising expenditure to have maximum impact on surplus income.

24. Use Hospice Ambassadors wherever possible to support donor relationships, specifically to attend fundraising activities and cheque presentations.
