Job summary

We are looking for a Legacy Fundraiser. Weve recently amalgamated with The Donna Louise Trust into our existing hospice, fundraising is increasingly important to the success of our portfolio of care.

Joining at this hugely exciting time, you will manage both individual fundraising relationships as well as activities with stakeholders within North Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent areas. With the aim to nurture existing relationships and develop new support this role will bolster the hospices income objectives and income growth, particularly focusing on supporters leaving the hospice a legacy gift in their Will. You will also be responsible for leading on legacy events and campaigns, providing an excellent supporter journey and working hard to maintain longevity and retention of donors. As part of a small team who all share the same vision that aligns with the objectives for voluntary income achievement across the Individual Giving & Trusts Team.

Main duties of the job

The right candidate will possess excellent communication and organisational skills, a motivation for achieving pre-determined targets with the ability to understand the needs of our supporters and adapting asks and supporter care journeys accordingly, with the ultimate goal of securing a legacy gift for the hospice. We are looking for somebody with a proactive, can do attitude with passion and enthusiasm to drive our fundraising opportunities forward.

Job responsibilities

Income Generating Function:

To generate voluntary resources: money, volunteers, donations of goods and services to enable Douglas Macmillan Hospice to deliver the organisation mission and strategy in keeping with DMH values and principles.

Job Summary:

To implement cultivation plans/donor journeys for individual donors with the ultimate goal of securing a legacy gift (a gift to Dougie Mac in their Will).

The Legacy Fundraiser is responsible for:-

Contributing to the delivery of an agreed annual budget, as a minimum, by building relationships with active and lapsed individual donors through individual giving initiatives, leading individual givers to make a commitment to a gift to the Hospice in their Will (a legacy), and supporting the fundraising strategy;

Amplifying the Iegacy donations and cultivating relationships with existing and new supporters who have chosen to leave a gift in their Will.

Leading, facilitating and administering Make A Will Month campaign, including managing relationships with supporting solicitors;

Supporting the department with marketing requirements, quotations and orders impacting on individual giving income streams;

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Execute an existing annual calendar of communications with individuals who have indicated support for the Hospice to raise additional donations through the current portfolio of individual giving initiatives and promote the legacy ask. This will include creating marketing materials, arranging postal mailings and supporting marketing campaigns as well as leading legacy/Gift in Wills events and presenting to appropriate audiences.

2. To utilise bespoke Hospice database (Donorflex) to accurately record all supporter activity ensuring:

creation & maintenance of unique donor records

a complete donation history

a full record of correspondence

a clear audit trail

3. To comply with and develop procedures, in liaison with the Individual Giving & Trusts Head to provide the following processes:

Utilise Donorflex

to build up donor relationship history on potential and actual supporters (legators) whom have left a gift in their Will.

liaise with finance and fundraising database coordinators regarding continued development of the legacy module to ensure best practice.

4. To attend to any queries relating to legacy donations from campaigns and carry out any additional research necessary.

5. To be responsible for personalising and producing appropriate communications within defined timescales.

6. To pass on for action requests requiring a personal response from other staff members, monitoring completion of action.

7. To ensure any monies received for a specific area are recorded accurately in line with accepted Hospice protocols.

8. To manage, monitor and work with others to improve the activities that deliver supporter and stakeholder satisfaction, engagement and positive experiences.

General

1. To receive and respond to legacy enquiries made by supporters or members of the general public by sending out relevant literature and advising the Head of Individual Giving & Trusts of action taken for future contact.

2. To assist the Head of Individual Giving & Trusts to develop and maintain links with possible and confirmed Legators, communicating with them both verbally and in writing. Assist with safeguarding the legacy relationship between supporters and the Hospice by ensuring correct contact procedure is adhered to as directed by the Individual Giving team.

Legacy Marketing and Promotional Activities

1. To assist Head of Individual Giving & Trusts in marketing and promotional activities e.g. compiling annual Will Making & Legacy promotional documentation, advertising and marketing materials. Liaise with supporting solicitors and record results for analysis.

2. To be responsible for ensuring that legacy related mailing files are accurate and fit for purpose.

3. To liaise with Solicitors for contacts, making appointments, preparing Certificates of Appreciation and ensuring Solicitors and Accountants offices have promotional materials.

4. To assist with maintaining the Legacy pages on the Hospice website, BLOG and other social network media, working with the Head of Department and Marketing & Communications team to ensure information is up to date, relevant and appealing.

5. To maintain and develop good relations with staff and volunteers, working in the team and all other Hospice Departments.

Secondary Duties & Responsibilities:

1. To attend meetings, seminars and training courses as appropriate to maintain and develop skills.

2. To provide support to ensure the smooth running of special interest groups, eg Legacy Focus Group, Legacy Events and Income Generation activities.

3. To be aware of legislation relevant to role e.g. data protection.
