We are looking for two Trauma Therapists with experience of working with children to join our Bradford Childrens Trauma Therapy Service

Main duties of the job

You will be a qualified, registered therapist with training/experience in working with children. You will be skilled in working with complex trauma and keen to develop your therapeutic skills in this area. You will be trauma-focused in your approach and have experience of working with children, young people and their parents/carers. You may have additional clinical training in a specific trauma and/or attachment focused therapy (e.g. EMDR, TF-CBT, TF-Play Therapy, DDP, Theraplay). You will be able to think systemically about inter-generational trauma with an understanding of the different presentation and therapeutic recovery needs of children at different ages and stages. You will be committed to high quality therapy standards with a passion for using your therapy skills to facilitate good outcomes. As a team player you will be keen to share your skills and specialisms and also learn from others.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To offer specialist trauma informed and attachment focused assessment and therapy to children and families who have experienced trauma through emotional, physical, sexual, domestic abuse and/or neglect and traumatic bereavement. To work with parents, carers and professionals to develop their understanding of the impact of trauma, improving outcomes and support for affected children.

  1. Undertake assessments of clinical need, taking into account childrens developmental, attachment, trauma and cultural needs.
  2. Working to a clear plan, provide outcomes-focused trauma and attachment therapy with a focus on recovery with children and families who have experienced trauma through emotional, physical, sexual, domestic abuse and/or neglect and traumatic bereavement.
  3. To take part in multi-agency meetings, including Child in Need and Child Protection meetings, care planning meetings with other health professionals and safeguarding reviews.
  4. Provide information and assist with the production of reports and monitoring, including case studies of therapy, as required by our funders.
  5. Consult with families who use our service and incorporate their views within service development.
  6. Ensure all work is carried out to Family Action minimum standards and is designed and delivered to maximise agreed outcomes.
  7. Ensure that the needs and views of children young people are at the heart of everything we do: offering holistic and child-centred interventions which are appropriate to their clinical needs, including referrals into other services as appropriate.
  8. Take responsibility for accessing regular case, and clinical, supervision. Respond to any case or service decisions effectively, recording all decisions on appropriate systems and ensuring that confidentiality and professional boundaries are maintained at all times.
  9. Comply with Family Actions Health and Safety and Data Protection policies and protect your own and others health, safety and welfare.
  10. Ensure that all assigned work adheres to Family Actions Safeguarding Policy and ensure BCSB procedures are followed in the event of any child protection issues or concerns.

  • Education, Qualifications & Background
  • A recognised professional qualification in psychotherapy or counselling at Masters level. Educated to degree level and registered with an appropriate professional organisation relevant to therapy modality (e.g. UKCP, AFT, ACP, BACP, BAAT, BAMT, BPS, HCPC, BADth, BAPT etc). Accredited within specific therapy modality.
  • Experience
  • Experience of providing outcomes focused therapy to children, young people and their families.
  • Experience in providing therapy using a trauma-focussed approach
  • Experience of sharing knowledge and skills with colleagues and other professionals.
