Job summary

FamilyLine our national digital and helpline support is proud to announce the expansion of our support framework to include dedicated services for adult family members. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated clinical supervisor to join our team.

At FamilyLine we use a team of trained volunteers with knowledge and experience of family issues to support service users via telephone, text and email. We provide a listening ear, answer particular parenting questions or help with guidance around more complex family issues. We also provide longer-term support through regular sessions with our befrienders and councellors.

Main duties of the job

You will be a passionate professional, wanting to make a difference to the lives of those FamilyLine works with, whilst being committed to ensuring the highest standards of quality and client experience are upheld.

You will have proven experience of integrative or person -centred therapy, supervision and supporting a diverse range of volunteers. You will work closely with the Volunteer Co-ordinator and tier 3 Programme and Development Manager to ensure that service users get the right help as soon as possible and provide high quality clinical supervision for volunteers that enables the safe and effective delivery of time limited counselling and person-centred support services.

Location: Homebased

Hours: 7.5 hours per week (part time)

Hourly rate: £80 per hour

Service: FamilyLine, Tier 3 Counselling and Befriending Service

Reports to: Head of Helpline / T3 Programme and Development Manager

Brief Description of Family Actions FamilyLine Service:

FamilyLine is a national support service providing information, guidance and support to any family member over the age of 18 on any family issue. At FamilyLine we use a team of both trained volunteers and staff members with knowledge and experience of family issues to support service users via telephone, text and email. We provide a listening ear, answer particular parenting questions or help with guidance around more complex family issues. We also provide longer-term support through regular sessions with our befrienders and counsellors (Tier 3 service).

Purpose of the Services to be provided by the Clinical Supervisor:

Working in partnership with the Volunteer Coordinator and T3 Programme and Development Manager to ensure that service users get the right help as soon as possible. To be responsible for triage of referrals and undertake assessment of service users with complex and varied needs.

To provide excellent quality clinical group supervision to volunteers who are undertaking practice in the service. Utilising extensive experience and own practice to develop volunteers skills, knowledge and practice in maximising positive outcomes for adult clients.

Role Responsibilities:

1. Provide excellent quality clinical group supervision with volunteers who are undertaking work with adults in line with BACP / UKCP / NCPS / BPC Code of Ethics and Practice for Supervisors.

2. Through clinical group supervision, support volunteers to develop their skills, knowledge and practice in time limited counselling and support.

3. Provide high quality supervision and feedback reports as agreed with the Tier 3 Programme and Development Manager / Head of Helpline.

4. To be responsible for triage of referrals and undertake assessment of service users with complex and varied needs. Working in partnership with the Volunteer Coordinator and T3 Programme and Development Manager to ensure that service users get timely and appropriate support.

5. Experience of systemic working and work with marginalised groups specifically BAME, LGBTQI+, people with disabilities and those whom have experienced trauma

6. Comply with Family Actions Safeguarding Policies and Procedures (these will be shared with the Clinical Supervisor).

7. A positive duty to report safeguarding or performance / ethical issues, for example fitness to practice concerns, openly with management in a timely manner.

8. Contribute to volunteers annual appraisal and performance objectives as required, for example, provide input / reports on learning, practice development, strengths and development areas.

9. Provide FamilyLine management team with brief record of clinical supervision sessions and service users discussed, and any safeguarding concerns.

10. Ability to work flexibly in order to meet the needs of the service and support volunteers

  • Education, qualifications and background
  • Educated to post graduate level with a recognised professional Counselling/Psychotherapy/ Clinical Psychology qualification. In addition, registered with relevant professional body and evidence of a commitment to continuous learning and professional development, including having or working towards a supervision qualification.
  • Minimum 3 years post qualification experience as a counsellor/psychotherapist with significant evidence of working with adults with mild- moderate mental health and psychosocial issues and providing outcome focussed interventions that support resilience and/or recovery. Understanding of or direct experience in trauma informed practice.
  • Experience of supporting services which work successfully to deliver positive outcomes for service users
  • Experience of supervising, managing, developing staff skills and knowledge and leading a diverse range of staff including supervision of volunteers.
  • Knowledge of the code of ethics of their professional body .
  • Abilities and skills
  • A dynamic and enthusiastic approach, creative and solution-focussed to respond to a rapidly changing culture and environment. This includes experience of change management, bringing others along with you.
  • Success in developing and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships. Experience of providing professional advice and guidance to other professionals, including at a strategic and management level, to influence the future direction of services.
