Job summary

Hastings Primary Care Network is seeking a skilled and compassionate Podiatrist to join our dynamic team. As a network comprising nine GP practices, serving a combined patient population of 100,000, we are committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. The successful candidate will primarily focus on providing diabetic foot checks within the population, with a particular emphasis on nursing homes. However, they will also undertake various other primary care podiatry services.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough and regular diabetic foot checks, identifying potential complications and providing appropriate interventions to prevent and manage foot-related conditions.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including GPs, nurses, and specialists, to develop comprehensive care plans for patients with diabetic foot conditions.
  • Provide primary care podiatry services, including the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of common foot ailments such as corns, calluses, ingrown toenails, and fungal infections.
  • Offer preventive care and advice on foot health, footwear, and orthotics, tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Perform routine foot care procedures, such as nail trimming, foot hygiene, and basic wound management.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documenting patient assessments, treatment plans, and outcomes.
  • Educate patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals about foot health, diabetes management, and the importance of regular foot examinations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve the quality of podiatry services, participate in clinical audits, and implement evidence-based practice.

About us

Hastings and St. Leonards Primary Care Network is a large PCN comprising 9 GP practices that serve a population of 100,000 patients. The network team works closely with each of the constituent practices to provide collaborative services, resolve shared problems and explore shared opportunities. The PCN team includes a dedicated infrastructure of Clinical Directors, Practice Representatives, Operational and Financial Management and Clinical and Non-Clinical Service teams including Covid Vaccination, Health Coaching, Clinical Pharmacy, First Contact Physiotherapy, Social Prescribing and Occupational Therapy.

  • Degree in Podiatry from a recognized institution.
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Podiatrist.
  • Membership of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (or eligibility to become a member).
  • Proven experience in conducting diabetic foot checks and managing foot-related complications.
  • Familiarity with the latest guidelines and best practices in podiatry, particularly in diabetic foot care.
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to establish rapport with patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
