Job summary
To provide creative therapy to life-limited children, young
people and families accessing Shooting Star Childrens Hospices (SSCH); to address psychological challenges brought
about by life-limiting conditions, loss and grief. Therapy interventions
are child and family focused, utilising the medium of art, drama, music, play
or other creative techniques that bring this work to life for children and
young people.
Our therapists each
have a caseload of children and young people with life-limiting conditions,
siblings and bereaved siblings. They carry out assessments,
individual and group sessions. As part of a family support team, our therapists
look at all ways we can support families to live the best life possible. This
might be through providing mental health advice, education and signposting, or
working closely with schools and other settings.
We are passionate about helping families ensure psychological struggles
do not unnecessarily impact children and young peoples lives, and we do so
through providing safe spaces for processing and healing, and specialist knowledge
and care.
Main duties of the job
Complete comprehensive assessments of children
and families referred for therapeutic support. To risk assess, identify
clinical need, and determine the appropriateness of a creative therapy
intervention.
Provide individual, family and/or group
therapy, working within the defined parameters of the SSCH childrens psychological
therapies agreement and policies.
Utilise creativity and the arts to support a
child and family in addressing mental health needs, and to offer opportunity
for development and growth.
Work collaboratively with the child, young
person and family to carefully consider the aims of therapy interventions and
to continually review work, identifying outcomes through the Therapy Measure
pro-forma.
To utilise standardised assessment tools to
screen children and young people for complex grief disorder and to measure
outcomes in therapy.
Demonstrate safe clinical practice in all
aspects of work with families.
Ensure accurate and contemporaneous notes and
records of all contacts are recorded within the electronic notes system.
Ensure the respect, dignity and rights to
privacy of children and their families as far as possible, whilst following
safeguarding guidelines.
Utilise outcome and evaluation tools throughout
clinical interventions to assess, record and measure impact; to continually
review aims and approach.
