Job summary
Chief Executive
Location: Hampton and Guildford
Salary: c.£110k
Shooting Star Children's Hospices supports babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families.
Thanks to medical advances, children with life-limiting conditions are living longer and the help they need is increasingly complex. We help families make every moment count by supporting them from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement.
Our bespoke support is free of charge to families and includes a comprehensive range of therapies and support groups for the whole family, specialist nursing care and respite, symptom management, end-of-life care and bereavement support.
It costs £8.8 million a year to maintain our current level of care and just 8% of that income comes from central government funding, so we rely on our supporters generosity to keep the service running.
Main duties of the job
Following a period of change and reorganisation, and with our current CEO recently announcing his retirement later this year, this is a great time to join us and lead the organisation forward in the next phase of our strategic development.
We are looking for an inspiring and authentic Chief Executive with a demonstrable track record in leading multi-disciplinary, geographically dispersed teams within a relevant voluntary, public or private sector environment.
Our Chief Executive will bring experience of driving significant organisational change and have a proven track record of developing robust strategies. You will be an exceptional people leader, able to empower high performing teams of staff and volunteers and develop strong internal and external stakeholder relationships. This includes the ability to work effectively with a Board either as an experienced CEO or as a leader of a relevant, multi-functional division or business unit.
About us
We are also looking for you to maintain and deepen the involvement of high-profile patrons and supporters, be empathetic to our cause and, with gravitas and excellent ambassadorial skills be able to promote our mission with confidence and authority.
You must place our outstanding quality of care as the highest priority and be able to balance this with a strong understanding of finance and how to deliver our services sustainably. In support of this you will bring proven commercial acumen and the ability to drive income diversification.
