Main duties of the job

The Senior Palliative Care Nurse role will support outreach into the community, (working with the CCN teams etc.), in reach into the acute hospitals (having a regular presence on wards, attending ward rounds etc.) and development of community hubs, building relationships with professionals, and raising awareness of all the services/support we can provide. This is an important step forward in the development of our services and this role is pivotal to this work. Therefore, we are looking for talented individuals who share our passion to improve the lives of children and young people with a variety of complex health conditions.

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post registration experience
  • Proven ability to supervise staff
  • Fully aware of regulatory safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Fully aware of regulatory Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberties.

Desirable

  • Experience in Paediatric palliative care
  • Management experience

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Children's Nurse on the NMC register other Registered Nurse discipline may be considered depending on experience
  • Educated to Degree level or Evidence of relevant post-registration learning.
  • Palliative care qualification or willing to work towards
  • Advanced Communication or willing to work towards
  • Driving license and access to a vehicle

Desirable

  • Non- Medical Prescribing or willing to work towards
  • Leadership and Management Qualification or willing to work towards
  • Bereavement training
  • Psychological Support Level 2 Training or willing to work towards
  • Practice Assessor / Practice Supervisor qualification or willing to work towards

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Management of people and the ability to influence change.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • To be confident in using information technology and electronic patient record systems i.e. SystemOne.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to organise and prioritise own work without direct supervision.
  • In-depth knowledge of complex health conditions
  • Symptom management knowledge in palliative care
  • Knowledge of assessment, care planning and review process and pathways
