Main duties of the job
Our Bereavement Service provides specialist and therapeutic counselling to
children, young people and adults, who have been bereaved through a death by
any means, using individual, group and family techniques as appropriate. This
service is continually growing and trying innovative ways to meet the needs of
a diverse group of individuals.
As the manager of this service, we are looking for an individual who has
experience in developing and coordinating services and who is passionate about
delivering high quality to support to people at their most vulnerable.
You will be a qualified counsellor at degree level
or above and be registered with the appropriate professional
body.

Role Purpose
The post holder
will play a key role in leading the forward planning and development of the
Bereavement Service. Promoting the highest quality bereavement care and support
for children, young people and adults referred to the bereavement service.
To be
responsible for a team of counsellors, caseworkers and volunteers, providing specialist
and therapeutic counselling to children, young people and adults, who have been
bereaved through a death by any means, using individual, group and family
techniques as appropriate.
To provide
support in a variety of locations including the hospice, community and schools.
This may also be provided virtually or by telephone depending on client need.
Ensure there is
a range of information and support available to meet the spectrum of need.
To network with
external stakeholders to promote the service
Main Responsibilities
Hold responsibility
for the line management of a team of bereavement counsellors, caseworkers and
volunteers.
To develop and provide a high-quality
bereavement service (at all levels, as per NICE guidelines) for those who have
accessed our services, are within our catchment area or the wider childrens
catchment areas.
To work responsively and creatively,
with children, young people and adults who have been bereaved using an MDT
approach with other organisations/professionals involved as appropriate.
To maintain and manage the bereavement
referrals and waiting list, undertaking assessments of need for appropriate
bereavement support provision, reviews and possible referrals to other
services. To undertake risk assessments of clients accessing the service in the
community as well as the hospice.

- Experience of working in a Leadership/Management role
- Experience of coordinating a service
- Experience of delivering emotional support.
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary health and social care setting
- Knowledge and skills in bereavement support or counselling
- Experience of working with bereaved people in a group or family setting
- Use of counselling skills in family bereavement/sensitive, confidential settings
- Experience of working with clients with complex needs and/or traumatic bereavements.
- Experience of working in an MDT approach
- Experience of supervised practise

- Experience of working in a mental health setting or supporting clients with mental health issues.
