Job summary

This is a new exciting role supporting the ANA programme across the North West London(NWL) in Primary Care.

We are seeking a highly motivated nurse educator with experience of delivering nursing practice education, training and professional development, to support delivery of the Apprentice Nursing Associate (ANA) programme in primary care. The post holder will have a good understanding of the training needs and curriculum for Apprentice Nursing Associates (ANAs), and ideally have experience of providing education and professional development for ANAs in primary or community care settings.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work across North West London supporting the Nursing Associate role in primary care; helping ANAs to put theory into practice in the workplace, and work with local training hubs and general practices to support their on-going development and placement management. They will help training hubs to prepare the workplace for Nursing Associates and support candidates with functional skills requirements and pre-application preparation. The post-holder will be hosted by Ealing CCG and sit within the Ealing training Hub.

As a key role in supporting the ANAs programme across the NW London Health & Care Partnership, the post-holder will be expected to liaise with training hubs in Brent, Central (Westminster), Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow, and West London.

Workforce planning and preparation

You will support local training hubs to;

Help Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and general practices understand the role of the Nursing Associate and promote effective workforce planning to introduce the role.

Identify potential ANAs candidates within the existing primary care HCSW workforce, and support them and their employers through the application process using an established NW London primary care support/resource package.

Provide support to candidates to achieve functional skills requirements for entry into the programme, and access specialist functional skills courses.

Developing and disseminating accurate information about the ANAs programme, the commitment of employers and learners, the application process and educate staff about the role.

Incorporate the needs of ANAs and Nursing Associates in local recruitment and retention initiatives.

Clinical

You will ensure that ANAs can meet the NMC standards for the role by:

Supporting ANAs with their on-going educational and professional development.

Working with stakeholders and partner organisations to coordinate the placements of ANAs in primary care.

Ensure that placements are well organised supportive learning environments and allow ANAs ample opportunities to demonstrate the required competencies

Acting as an educational resource to ANAs and their practice supervisors/assessors and those who work with them.

Providing practice assessment when appropriate.

Contributing to the monitoring and auditing of the education standards of ANAs.

Promoting the use of clinical supervision and reflective practice amongst ANAs and those who work with them.

Managerial/Leadership

You will be a role model for ANAs by;

Presenting and leading on discussions around ANAs at training hub meetings

Presenting on matters relating to the ANAs programme at general practice nursing/HCSW forums.

Working in partnership with the Trusts to secure the provision of external placements for primary care ANAs, and availability of reciprocal placements in general practice.

Promoting quality & safety within the clinical environment

Demonstrating effective communication with all stakeholders about ANAs.

Where an ANA is failing to achieve clinical competency, contribute to the implementation of learning / education solutions to support that apprentice and their practice supervisor/assessor.

Provide regular activity reports to the Ealing training hub

Contribute to the development of local guidelines about the role of Nursing Associates and ANAs in primary care.

Education

You will play a lead role in developing and supporting the education of ANAs working in general practice across North West London by:

Working in partnership with the accredited education institutes to ensure that the apprenticeship programme is delivering the skills and knowledge required by the NMC.

Working with university link lecturers, training hub Nurse Educators, and practice supervisors/assessors to develop effective and supportive, high quality learning environments and placements for ANAs which meet NMC standards.

Providing practice assessment of ANAs in general practice when appropriate.

Supporting training hubs to develop, plan and deliver training materials, induction packages, Action Learning Sets, clinical supervision, and learning/educational solutions to meet local needs.

Contributing to discussions regarding areas of concern and fitness to practice issues

Maintaining a personal/professional development profile and contribute to the evaluation and development of this new role in primary care.
