Job summary

The DigitalHealth.London Accelerator is looking for an NHS Navigator to provide bespoke support and advice to digital health companies looking to crack the NHS market. You'll be uniquely positioned to learn about and influence the adoption of digital technologies within the NHS, for the benefit of patients and the system, while being hosted by UCLPartners. This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in a growing team that have supported companies like DrDoctor, LIVI, Perfect Ward, and Echo.

From making introductions to key NHS decision makers to attending business strategy meetings of your mentee companies, no two days are the same as an NHS Navigator. The small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) who are participating in the Programme will be looking for assistance to develop and market their products. The support will help SMEs understand demand, test innovations from an early stage, and bring new products and processes to market.

Main duties of the job

You'll support companies to develop new innovations, products and processes to benefit the NHS; providing one-to-one guidance through the process of getting NHS-ready

You'll act as a relationship manager between participating SMEs and Londons NHS, youll open doors and provide an honest NHS perspective to innovators

You'll support senior NHS clinical and service leaders to think through their service transformation needs, and work with them to source and connect with appropriate digital innovations

Its programmes bring together health and care stakeholders across London to collaborate and solve some of the biggest challenges in the NHS.

The Accelerator is one of DigitalHealth.London flagship programmes, it enables the delivery of digital innovations by Londons NHS and social care system. It is a highly competitive, high profile and well-established programme. The DigitalHealth.London Accelerator works with 20 Small to Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) each year that have the highest potential to meet current NHS and social care challenges. As an NHS delivered programme, it provides in-depth insights into the challenges and opportunities for digital innovation in the NHS and wider UK health and care sector. This enables SMEs to broker meaningful partnerships and collaborations as well as to help them refine, develop and scale their innovations.

One of the programmes differentiating features is each selected SME is assigned an NHS Navigator, an experienced professional from the NHS with clinical or management experience. This role focuses on areas specific to individual companies needs, with a focus on engagement with different elements of the health and care system. Support may include:

  • Engagement with clinicians and healthcare experts
  • Refining products to meet NHS need
  • Deepening understanding of the health system
  • Showcasing innovations in health facilities
  • Developing business models to progress product development
  • Market access and navigation
  • Evidence generation and evaluation signposting and support

The Navigator support is complemented with a comprehensive educational series of events for companies and one to one clinics with a range of experts.

Role description

The main purpose of this post is to manage and deliver the objectives of the DigitalHealth.London programmes; currently the Accelerator, The Launchpad, The Evidence Generator and the Digital Pioneer Fellowship. These programmes are delivered at scale across London. The overall aim is to engage meaningfully with healthcare organisations, patients/Londoners and health tech SMEs to enable digital transformation, benefiting staff and patients, saving taxpayers money and facilitating economic growth. Each navigator gives bespoke support to a subset of Accelerator SMEs, helping them to hone their business to get NHS scale ready, open doors and obtain an honest NHS perspective. Performance management of work streams will be key and focussed on delivering Accelerator programme metrics, as well as those associated with other core programmes. This will involve providing written reports on project progress, monitoring risks and issues and designing a support plan for each Accelerator SME. The postholder will act as an ambassador for the programme, attending, organising and leading relevant programme meetings and representing the Accelerator at external events.

We welcome applications from experienced clinicians and senior managers, who have a proven interest in innovation and technology.

Key responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the development, delivery and coordination of support for their cohort of SMEs and any support across all areas of the NHS and social care.
  • Implement projects and report on progress to the Programme Board and other governance structures as appropriate.

  • Develop recommendations; gain support, implement and performance manage services relevant to the implementation of the projects ensuring best value and an outcome based approach.

  • Lead the liaison with wider networks at sector, regional and national levels to facilitate dissemination of the project learning and tools.
