Job summary

This role will undertake the preparation and analysis of data to support City Hospice in decision making and performance monitoring.

The role will work on the creation of reports both standard and ad hoc to support a variety of users in strategic planning, decision making, performance management and service improvement.

The data analyst will work on defined projects as well as responding to ad hoc requests for information and analysis. The role requires the post holder to adopt a proactive and flexible approach with the ability to use initiative and apply professional judgement.

This role will support the drive for improved data literacy across City Hospice, guiding teams toward intelligent decision making.

Main duties of the job

Ability to develop and deliver a quality service, providing a a full range of business intelligence required to manage services effectively.Proactive in arranging and contributing to meetings with colleagues at all levels. Ability to communicate sensitive and contentious information clearly.Liaise with external stakeholders / Cardiff and Vale UHB / Velindre NHS Trust etc.Ability to extract, process and analyse complex data to show trends, and highlight areas of significance.Analyse data required for statutory and grant funding.Develop and maintain performance reports. Ensure validation checks and processes are built into reports and dashboards.

Ensure continual development and process redesign .Support managers through business planning. Support with the design and development of SOPs and reporting policies. Propose changes where necessary. Present to Clinical Governance Committee. Advocate for data usage.

Provide data for potential efficiency gains and cost savings.

Provide training to colleagues on the use of analytical tools.

Act as super user for clinical and NHS systems including CANISC, Lamplight and Welsh Clinical Portal.

Support in all aspects of business intelligence including data quality, provision of information to support business planning, operational and performance management .

Keep up to date with guidance and legislation and make recommendations for changes to policies and procedures.

Manage own workload and ensure deadlines are met.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Communication

The ability to work with colleagues from all levels across City Hospice to develop and deliver a quality service focused on providing a full range of business intelligence required to manage services effectively and to support future planning and service development. This will require the ability to communicate with both senior managers and operational staff to develop a clear and precise scope of work ensuring clarity around objectives and outcomes.

Ensure effective communication on matters of mutual interest between the Clinical and Non Clinical teams

This data analyst will be expected to arrange and contribute to meetings with colleagues to discuss data and reporting issues and ways to resolve them.

The data analyst will require excellent communication skills with the ability to present information in a clear and concise way verbally, graphically and in written reports.

The data analyst will attend high level meetings which will require the ability to communicate sensitive and contentious information to both clinical and non clinical audiences. This could include information regarding patient satisfaction and complaints, workforce productivity and resource utilisation.

You will be required to act as the City Hospice representative, liaising with external stakeholders such as Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, Digital Health and Care Wales and Velindre NHS Trust IT departments and to feedback any issues and concerns to the relevant parties.

Knowledge, Training and Experience

Possess an in-depth knowledge of mathematics, statistical analysis and modelling techniques

Knowledge of legislation, policies, procedures, codes of practice in relation to systems, data and information governance

Analytical and Planning and Organising

Extract, process and analyse complex and patient sensitive data from a variety of sources to complete both ad hoc requests and regular reports

Analyse complex and patient sensitive data to show trends and identify and highlight any areas of significance. Investigate any outlying areas using own initiative

Identify, collate and analyse data required for statutory and grant funding returns dealing with any anomalies and data quality issues before preparing and submitting within the deadlines required.

Develop, automate and maintain regular performance reports in line with user requirements utilising all available technologies and data analysis tools to bring together the various complex and different information elements.

Build reports using visual analytics software such as PowerBI and Tableau

Ensure validation checks and processes are built into the creation of reports and dashboards

Use knowledge and skills to automate routine processes and work with colleagues across the clinical team to ensure continual development and process redesign to maximise accuracy and efficiency and reduce the requirement for manual process.

Provide expert advice and guidance on information management, information standards and data quality issues

Support managers through the business planning process and decisions on future service delivery plans through modelling and forecasting techniques

Ability to interpret and analyse current external data trends to enable City Hospice to respond proactively to future proof our response to data requirements.

Support Senior Managers with the design and organising of the patient satisfaction survey, providing statistical analysis and investigating a variety of channels of engagement

Adhere to all City Hospice policies and procedures in relation to the role

Support the Clinical Director and Finance & Commercial Director in the design and development of analysis and reporting policies and standard operating procedures including those related to report requests, report development and management

Act as an advocate for the promotion and development of data usage across the clinical teams, promoting a culture of informed decision making

Ensure all procedures relating to their area of responsibility are documented and kept up to date with any changes

Propose changes in policy and standard operating procedures where required
