Job summary
We are looking for volunteer counsellors to join our Wellbeing Counselling Services team at St Catherine's Hospice. Using your expert skills you will help deliver care and support to patients and their families at our Hospice sites, community venues, in people's homes across Sussex and Surrey or by telephone/video call.
Main duties of the job
Counselling is offered at any stage of a person's journey, and continues for families into bereavement.
As a valued member of our team, you will primarily work with 3+ allocated clients each week, and have the opportunity to be involved in one of our bereavement groups.
You must attend regular supervision, and be able to see 3+ clients each week with a minimum commitment of 12 months. We offer two hours fortnightly supervision (max 4 people) and additional training opportunities.
Closing date for applications is Sunday 20 August 2023 and interviews will be held in September 2023.
Successful candidates will be required to attend three days of training in September/October which will be held at the Hospice site in Crawley.

team manager
- Submit client updates to the Hospice Administrators
- Follow the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions and any
other applicable code of professional conduct at all times
- Adhere to our Volunteering Code of Conduct
- Attend relevant meetings & undertake all training required
- Act as an ambassador for St Catherine's at all times

- Being able to demonstrate strong emotional resilience
- Ability to acknowledge and affirm loss or potential loss, and the pain of grief as a
- natural part of human experience
- Ability to support clients in their changing circumstances
- Ability to respect client's choices and variety of expressions of grief consistent
- with different patterns of belief, family, community, culture and religion
- Commitment to undertake regular training as necessary for the role
- Ability to support as part of a team
- Capacity to see 3+ clients each week and attend supervision fortnightly,

- People to offer a commitment of 12 months or more where possible, due to the
- training and support provided and for you to gain as much as you can from the
- opportunity and experience of doing this role
- An understanding of Hospice care and philosophy and the ability to contribute to it
- would be good, but not essential
