We are seeking
enthusiastic, caring, and compassionate individuals to join our team at St
Catherines Hospice. You will be working
in our community where you will assist the registered nurses in delivering
essential, personalized care when its needed most.
This post is offered on a full-time
basis, working up to 37.5 hours per week. We will shortlist candidates as applications
are received, and as such this vacancy may close at any time.
Main duties of the job
We deliver
outstanding end of life care to patients from across West Sussex and East
Surrey 24/7 and 365 days a year. The
role is offered on a shift basis, which will include seven-day cover, working a
mix of days, weekends and bank holidays, hours between 8am 8pm with 1-hour
unpaid break.
The successful
candidates will demonstrate excellent communication skills, a professional
demeanor and display a commitment to providing a high standard of care to our
patients.
An NVQ 3 in
Health/Social care or relevant experience in care work is an advantage, but not
essential as full training will be given. Candidates should have a sound
understanding of health and safety procedures and infection prevention &
control. Full diving licence and access to your own vehicle is essential for
this role.

to help everyone face death informed, supported and pain free. Providing
experthospice care, were there for people in West Sussex and East Surrey
when life comes full circle.

We are located in Malthouse Road, Crawley, West Sussex, which is within
commuting distance from Brighton and London and just a 5-minute walk from
Crawley railway station.In Autumn of 2023 we will be relocating to Pease Pottage where this role
will then be based.

St Catherine's Hospice, and their families.

and professional working environment.
Under clinical direction, Healthcare
Assistants help to deliver high standards of holistic and individualised
patient care, embracing the hospice's vision and values.
When required, the postholder will also
provide support and work with patients and families in the Ward and in Nurse-led
clinics/community engagement projects.

- An ability to work with patients facing life limiting illnesses and their carers
- Awareness of health and safety procedures (including infection prevention control measures) and how they affect people in the workplace
- Excellent professional communication skills. Awareness of ways of overcoming barriers to communication (dementia, sensory disability, confusion, non-English speaking, etc)
- Clinical observation skills
- Simple wound management skills
- Ability to use own initiative and plan own work for the shift in order to meet the needs of a given group of patients
- Ability to work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team
- An understanding of basic nutrition needs
- Able to demonstrate methods of promoting dignity
- Holds a full UK driving licence
