This role will suit an experienced therapy assistant or instructor who possesses relevant theoretical knowledge and practical training. The successful applicant will predominately work alongside the inpatient care team at Helen House in Cowley.
This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours per week, however, we are open to discussions about flexible working for a minimum of 4 days per week.
Main duties of the job
As a Physiotherapy Assistant, you will report into the Physiotherapist, and will be supported in providing guidance and interventions for children and young people staying at Helen & Douglas House. You will participate in research and evidence-based practices to help audit, develop and improve the physiotherapy offer at the charity. You will also support the Care Team with the safe use of equipment, such as wheelchairs or mobility aids, providing training where necessary.
Helen & Douglas House is a registered hospice charity based in Oxford, providing palliative, respite, end-of-life and bereavement care to life-limited children and their families. Essential
- Established experience working as therapy assistant or instructor. Knowledge of Physiotherapist role within palliative care. An understanding of MDT working.
Desirable
- Established experience working as therapy assistant or instructor in paediatric care. Experience of supporting or mentoring others.

- Evidence of effective team working. Evidence of adaptable communication skills. Good time management and organisational skills. Ability to work independently following relevant competency completion following delegated responsibilities. To demonstrate awareness of working within scope of practice when working autonomously. Basic IT skills including use of general Microsoft software, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
Desirable
- Evidence of ability to quickly adapt to effectively prioritise caseload. Evidence of experience using manual handling skills including specialist therapy equipment. Experience of delivering training confidently to different recipients.
