Job summary

We are seeking to recruit a compassionate, inspiring and forward-thinking strategic leader as our new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). With the ability to work collaboratively and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, youll transform and lead our organisation forward, ensuring we deliver the next stage of our ambitious strategic plans.

To be successful, youll have experience in transformational change and a passion and understanding of the work we do and the importance of our place within the local healthcare economy.

About us

St Barnabas Hospices Group (soon to be known as Southern Hospice Group) based in West Sussex, provides specialist palliative and end of life care to adults and children with life-limiting conditions. Following a recent merger, we now operate across three hospice sites, St Barnabas House, Chestnut Tree House and Martlets, providing in-patient care as well as care within the local community which covers East and West Sussex and into Southeast Hampshire.

Our people bring a variety of skills and work across a wide variety of business areas. From our highly specialised clinical teams to our 34 retail shops and our exceptional fundraising and corporate support teams.

Job responsibilities

As Chief Executive Officer, you will be accountable for the delivery of excellent hospice services across the sites and geography served by St Barnabas Hospices Group, namely Martlets, Chestnut Tree House and St Barnabas House hospices and associated community services, on behalf of and in line with the direction set by the Board of Trustees. Specifically, you will be responsible for ensuring high levels of organisational performance spanning strong financial sustainability, good or outstanding quality of care and services and strong workforce engagement and wellbeing.

You will also be responsible for ensuring that the organisation fulfils all of its legal, statutory and regulatory responsibilities in line with the Charity Commission, this will include working closely with the Board of Trustees in their role and responsibilities to ensure that the organisation operates in accordance with the Articles of the Association, general good practice and legal requirements.

  • * Experience of working with a Board of Trustees to deliver complex care services
  • * A strong track record of establishing and maintaining effective relationships and partnerships
  • * A proven ability in building financial sustainability; bringing a blend of strong commercial and financial acumen alongside an understanding of income generation.
