Job summary

Chestnut Tree House is the children's hospice for East and West Sussex and South East Hampshire providing specialist palliative care for children and young people with life-shortening conditions.

As a Family Counsellor working 22.5 hour per week you will be part of the Child and Family Support Team, providing specialist emotional support and counselling/psychotherapy to families (children, young people and adults) under the care of Chestnut Tree House.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced counsellor, accredited or working towards accreditation with the BACP or relevant professional body. You will work with and support staff, patients and their family members.

The role requires adaptable and responsive individuals, with a passion for specialist palliative care, using a person-centred approach. You will facilitate training and support for individuals and group activities for families and children/young people as required.

You will also be required to contribute to the development of services provided by an established and vibrant multi-professional team.

About us

The role will require you to be based at Chestnut Tree House. We work with a blended approach so experience of telephone and remote working is essential. There will also be occasional weekend or out of hours work.

Due to the remote location and lack of public transport, access to your own transport is essential.

An enhanced DBS will be sought, if you are successful in this role. The safe recruitment of staff at St Barnabas Hospices is the first step to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults in our care. As an employer we expect all staff and volunteers to share our commitment to safeguarding.

We are committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive community a place where we can all be ourselves and succeed on merit. We offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, staff engagement forums, facilities and services to support staff from different backgrounds.

The information you provide on your application form is the only information we will use to decide whether or not to short-list you for interview.
