Would you like to join Londons leading nursing team? We are looking for a Staff Nurse to join our busy pre-assessment department, specialising in providing care to a variety of surgical specialties, including urology, gastrointestinal surgery and plastics/cosmetic surgery.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will work as part of the Pre-Assessment service ensuring safe and effective pre-operative care. The post holder is responsible for ensuring the safe assessment of patients in line with Hospital and National guidelines. The candidate must aim to deliver high standards of care within a patient centred approach. The post holder must work efficiently and effectively and be able to work within a team environment. The post holder must be able to demonstrate an advanced level of assessment skills with analysis of clinical findings to determine fitness to proceed to surgery.

Job responsibilities
What would be my responsibilities as Pre-assessment Staff Nurse?
- Working autonomously, completes Pre-Assessment for a caseload of patients, undertaking a targeted history with assessment of past medical, operative and anaesthetic history.
- Prioritizes patients in based on the triage pathway and optimizing them in High risk clinic based on the validated health questionnaire.
- Completes testing as per NICE guidelines, interprets and manages the results, and where appropriate initiates relevant referrals to appropriate health care team.
- Completes venepuncture, ECG, lung function testing and requesting of x-ray as per policy.
- Identifies patients with specific health issues and undertakes relevant risk scoring where indicated and manages the results.
- Demonstrates appropriate review of previous anaesthetic documentation and is able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the key factors that would require referral for anaesthetist assessment
- Follows up on outcomes of referrals to ensure fitness to proceed.
- Provides support and advice for patients, carers, family and staff.
- To be competent in Lifebox pre-assessment software to ensure accurate health records are kept at all times
- To adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct and Hospitals Policies, Procedures, Protocols and Standards at all times
