Main duties of the job
We are looking for an Adult Bereavement Service Coordinator To co-ordinate, develop and maintain the Adult Bereavement Service for relatives, friends and carers of patients who have died in the care of St. Johns Hospice. To ensure the Bereavement Service is a seamless part of the holistic care offered at the Hospice and that it is culturally sensitive and appropriate for all those groups accessing the Hospice.
The Adult Bereavement Services Coordinator will be part of a small team of social workers, with a particular responsibility for coordinating the Hospice Adult Bereavement Service.
Please note: The team comprises a separate child bereavement coordinator.

- Support the bereaved person in expressing grief-related feelings in safe professional environment.
- Enable the bereaved person to better understand their feelings and finding healthy coping strategies in terms of their bereavement.
- Provide the bereaved person (s) with opportunities to explore their past relationship with the deceased and any unexplored anticipatory grief.
- Identify with the bereaved person any post bereavement needs and any unresolved issues with the deceased that would jeopardise a healthy bereavement process.
- Explore coping strategies and safe mechanisms to promote resilience, adjustment and facilitate grief work.
- To help the bereaved person normalise the grief reaction and promote their understanding of the different stages of grief stages.

Qualifications
Essential
- Direct counselling with individuals and families
- Experience of working with people facing death and bereavement
- CQSW, Diploma or degree in social work
- Formal qualification in counselling and up to date registration with BAC
Desirable
- Ability to work effectively as member of a multi-professional team.
- Ability to work with people going through bereavement.
- Demonstrate skills in assessment, therapeutic and group work.
- Knowledge of grief and bereavement theories
- Knowledge and experience of adult and children Safeguarding legislations and policies.
- Ability to select, manage and support volunteers.
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation, voluntary and statutory services
- Knowledge of other bereavement services
- High standard of verbal, recording and written skills
- Ability to manage own caseload in accordance with agreed priorities.
- Ability to advocate on behalf of service users.
- Proven skills in developing and maintaining administrative systems.
- Computer literacy
- To understand, and an ability to promote and implement equal opportunities in all areas of work.
- Experience of developing a service in response to an identified need
