St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth

Clinical Lead - Inpatient Unit

The closing date is 31 August 2025

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and well-motivated professional to specialise in palliative and end-of-life care within our specialist unit.

As the Clinical Lead you will be responsible for the Clinical Operational Management of the inpatient unit providing specialist palliative care for those patients admitted to St Lukes Specialist In-patient Unit.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a key member of the Multidisciplinary team providing specialist care to patients and families. Supporting education, audit, and research to influence the delivery of high-quality care and identify innovative ways of working which improve and develop the service offered.

As the Clinical Lead for the IPU, you will be based within the inpatient unit but will work collaboratively with other clinical leads across the organization, providing leadership advice as needed to support various areas.

Our IPU team takes great pride in delivering palliative and end-of-life care of the highest standard for patients with complex care needs, alleviating their pain and preserving their dignity. As a result, the IPU maintains an excellent nurse-to-patient ratio, typically 1:3, to uphold this standard of care.

While the position we are recruiting for is challenging, it is also highly rewarding. You will be part of a supportive team working in a positive environment where all our staff and volunteers are valued. Internal rotation to night and weekends will be a requirement of the post.

In return, you will benefit from excellent opportunities to develop your skills, as well as the chance to maintain your membership in the NHS Pension Scheme if you are an existing member.

We would encourage informal discussions regarding this post with the Nurse Consultant / Clinical Operations Lead Jen Nicholls 01752 964 200 / 07920561750
