DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE BANK Healthcare Assistant Non Obstetric Ultrasound
LOCATION Based from Waters Green Medical Centre in Macclesfield,
although the role requires frequent travel to a number of Hospital and
Community Clinics within Eastern Cheshire.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST
To assist the Sonographers in providing a high quality,
patient-centred non-obstetric ultrasound service at a number of sites within
Eastern Cheshire.
KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Major working relationships with all sonographers involved in the
service
Liaison with other clinical professionals, support staff,
patients, carers and their relatives
Liaison with other agencies, especially East Cheshire NHS Trust
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist with Patient Care whilst Supporting the Sonographer
Check patient identification against referral and appointment
system in order to support the sonographer in undertaking the requested
examination(s)
Receive patients into the scanning room and prepare them for their
examination
To have a clear understanding of all examinations carried out in
the service and the preparation required prior to the examination
Provide support and information to patients, carers and relatives
where appropriate
Signpost / guide patients to the toilet as required
Support the sonographer whilst they are undertaking examinations
and chaperone during examinations, especially intimate examinations.
Use equipment and accessories appropriately
Support keeping patient appointments to time in order to aid in
the smooth running of the service and maintaining high standards of patient
experience.
2. Communicate effectively and ensure smooth running of the
service
Ensure effective communication with other staff, patients and
members of the public maintaining patient confidentiality at all times
Ensure that enquiries are dealt with promptly and efficiently
Attend staff meetings and contribute to the smooth running of the
service
To be prepared to work flexible hours according to the needs of
the service
To participate in audit and quality control programmes if required
3. Maintain a safe working environment
To maintain a safe and clean working environment within the
scanning room
Ensure that you adhere to infection prevention and control good
practice.
Ensure that all standard procedures, protocols and guidelines are
adhered to
Have an understanding of the policies and procedures of Vernova
Healthcare CIC
Report any incidents or accidents and broken equipment to your
line manager
4. Perform Clerical Duties
Use the Computerised Radiology Information System (CRIS) for the
purposes of patient identification and recording attendance
Upload images from the mobile scanner to the Picture Archiving and
Communication System (PACS) in accordance with defined procedures.
Assist with checking and ordering of consumables required by the
service.
5. Other Duties
Provide cover for other Ultrasound Healthcare Assistants as
required
To undertake other duties as requested, appropriate to the rate of
pay for the post

safety precautions are a legal requirement. ALL accidents must be reported to
your manager and in line with the general philosophy of the CIC, you must
participate in accident prevention by reporting hazards and following policies
and procedures including Moving and Handling guidelines.
You are required to contribute to the control of risk and use the
incident reporting system to alert the Management of incidents or near misses
that may compromise the quality of services.
