This is a full time position working 37.5 hours per week including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.

Urgent Care Practitioner Clinical Educator

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week with variable Hours over 7 days

Base locations: St Georges Urgent Treatment Centre & Wharfedale General Hospital

Responsible to: Clinical Manager

JOB SUMMARY

The Urgent Care Practitioner (UCP) Clinical Educator will be an experienced non-medical practitioner responsible for the education and training of clinicians in the assessment and management of minor injury and minor illness.

Key Educational Responsibilities

  • Support, guide and monitor the progress of clinicians employed by, or rotating through, Local Care Direct
  • Liaise with academic institutions to ensure that the learning objectives of individual practitioners are identified and that clinical supervision needs are met
  • Ensure that competence is regularly assessed and relevant documentation completed on a regular basis
  • Responsible for signing off Clinical Competency Frameworks
  • Ensure practitioner are adequately prepared to pass the X-ray interpretation course and other external modules such as independent prescribing
  • Demonstrate and teach evidence based care ensuring that self and others are working within agreed guidelines and protocols

Key Clinical Responsibilities

  • To assess, diagnose, treat and refer or signpost patients who attend with undifferentiated or undiagnosed minor illness or minor injury
  • Liaise and network closely with other colleagues within primary and secondary care and other agencies, referring patients as necessary

  • Ensure evidence based care is delivered at a high standard to patients providing expert clinical advice when appropriate
  • Identify own professional development needs through the Personal Development Review Process
  • To participate in the audit process, evaluating the service, implementing action plans and change of practice as necessary
  • Be actively involved in the development of new policies and procedures
  • Prescribe medications as appropriate following national and local guidance
  • Competent in X-Ray requisition and interpretation
  • Be computer literate and have experience of using SystmOne
  • Establish patient capacity and obtain informed consent prior to care delivery. Where a patient lacks capacity, act in the patients best interests seeking appropriate advice and support where necessary
  • Be fully compliant with the companies Infection Prevention and Control (IP&C) policies and attend/complete yearly IP&C training
  • Safeguard children and vulnerable adults promoting their welfare and to work to prevent, recognise, respond, appropriately refer and record potential neglect or abuse, adhering to the companys Safeguarding Children and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and PREVENT policies and procedures

  • To communicate at all expected levels to ensure an effective service is provided
  • To ensure that the service user is involved with any discussions about their care management and that this is documented
  • To maintain accurate, contemporaneous healthcare records appropriate to the consultation

  • Ensure that professional practice is evidence based and current
  • Ensure that Continual Professional Development is maintained and facilitates the ability to provide care to a high standard in a way that is both safe and cost effective
  • Ensure that mandatory training is up to date and participate in training as appropriate
  • Provide and effective and efficient service including utilising time management, organisational, co-ordination and management skills
  • To support the clinical lead undertaking specific areas of work as requested
  • Participate in an annual Professional Development Review (PDR)

Demonstrate Team Working Skills

  • Participate in audit to improve service delivery and design
  • Actively promote the service and signpost to other services as appropriate
