Job summary

BARDOC are recruiting a Physician Associate to work at Dr Ghafoor and Partners Practice and other sites as and when required.

The PA will be involved in providing care for the presenting patient from initial history taking and clinical assessment through to the diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care.

They will demonstrate critical thinking in the clinical decision-making process, including assessment and diagnostic skills, leading to the delivery of safe care for all patients.

They will work collaboratively with the healthcare team to meet the needs of the patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.

Main duties of the job

The PA will provide care for the presenting patient from initial history taking and clinicalassessment through to the diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care.

They will demonstrate critical thinking in the clinical decision-making process, including assessment and diagnostic skills, leading to the delivery of safe care for all patients.

They will work collaboratively with the healthcare team to meet the needs of the patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.

The PA will provide a holistic and clinical service, with support from GPs as required, implementing agreed management plans and following approved protocols as appropriate.

The PA will be expected on a typical day to carry out some home visits and consult with patients who present on the day and via booked appointments. The PA will also review and act appropriately on blood results and referrals/correspondence regarding their patients.

Mentorship and supervision will be provided by designated senior medical personnel.

The level and type of supervision will be dependent on the post holders acquisition of skills and knowledge and determined by the organisations clinical governance arrangements.

Job responsibilities

The Physician Associate will help support the Practice to deliver in the following areas:

Provide direct clinical care to patients using established clinical guidelines.

Provide first point of contact care for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems utilising history-taking, physical examinations and clinical decision-making skills to establish a working diagnosis and management plan in partnership with the patient (and their carers where applicable).

Deliver integrated patient centred-care through appropriate working with the wider primary care multi-disciplinary team and social care networks.

Undertake face-to-face, telephone and online consultations for emergency or routine

  • Problems including management of patients with long-term conditions. Where required the physician associates can offer specialised clinics following appropriate training including (but not limited to) family planning, baby checks, COPD, asthma, diabetes and anticoagulation.

Undertake home visits and participate in duty rotas.

Provide health/disease promotion and prevention advice to patients.

Utilise clinical guidelines and promote evidence-based practice and partake in clinical audits, significant event reviews and other research and analysis tasks.

Through participating in continuing professional development opportunities will keep up to date with evidence-based knowledge and competence in all aspects of their role, meeting clinical governance guidelines for continuing professional development (CPD).
