Job summary

This is an exceptional opportunity to provide visible, compassionate leadership and clinical expertise within our 10-bed In-Patient Unit. You will oversee the delivery of safe, holistic, and person-centred care for patients and their families, supporting a culture of excellence, learning, and continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job

As IPU Sister/Charge Nurse, you will lead a skilled team of nurses, healthcare assistants and students - ensuring our values and standards are reflected in every aspect of care. Working closely with the Matron role and wider leadership team, you will also play a key role in developing services, supporting workforce wellbeing, and driving quality and innovation.

Job responsibilities

SISTER / CHARGE NURSE | Band 7 | £47,810 - £54,710 per annum

If you are a nurse leader with a background in palliative or end-of-life care, this role offers the chance to make a lasting difference in supporting our patients and families when it matters most. Shaping the ongoing development of our inpatient services. The role will include:

  • Acting as the senior nurse on duty, providing visible leadership and professional support across the In-Patient Unit.
  • Ensuring safe staffing levels, effective skill-mix, and a positive, compassionate team culture.
  • Delivering and coordinating high-quality, holistic care that meets the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and families.
  • Leading by example, upholding professional and clinical standards in line with NMC guidelines and hospice policy.
  • Supporting and mentoring nursing staff, healthcare assistants and students, promoting a culture of learning and accountability.
  • Contributing to governance, audit and quality improvement projects, embedding evidence-based practice and continuous learning.
  • Managing operational aspects of the unit including rostering, resource allocation, and budget oversight.
  • Deputising for the Matron as required and contributing to service development and strategic projects.

    HOURS OF WORK

    This is a Full-Time position working 37.5 a week on a rotational basis, including day, evening, night, weekend and back holiday shifts to provide supportive leadership and support across the unit.
