Sentinel Healthcare South West CIC

This job is now closed

Job summary

We are currently looking for additional Diabetes Educators to join our QISMET accredited Type 2 Structured Education team.

Diabetes care is one of the major challenges facing the NHS. Structured education programmes can help adults with Type 2 diabetes to improve their knowledge and skills and also help to motivate them to take control of their condition and self-manage it effectively.

Our education team consists of Nurses and Dietitians who are trained and competent to deliver the principles and content of the programme.

Programme delivery is offered through telephone assessments, face to face group sessions at various locations across Plymouth and the outlying areas and digitally via webinars.

Main duties of the job

Applicants should ideally already have relevant work experience of working with diabetic patients, have excellent presentation skills and be able to demonstrate an understanding of educational theory appropriate to the age and needs of the patients referred into the programme. Applicants will also need to be digitally confident in using video platforms to deliver webinars.

Successful applicants will undergo a period of observational learning, followed by peer-supported on-the-job induction.

The educator role would be ideal for suitably qualified and registered Nurses and Dietitians looking to either supplement their existing post or wanting to gain experience of working in a community-based setting.

Work will be offered on a flexible basis dependent on the applicants availability and referral demand. Applicants must be willing to travel in and around the Plymouth and South Hams locality.

About us

Sentinel Healthcare CiC has been delivering the NHS Devon ICB commissioned Type 2 Diabetes Structured Education Group programme since 2014.

The programme structure has recently been reviewed and received QISMET accreditation.

Sentinel's main base is located at the Plymouth Science Park, which is nearby to the peaceful Bircham Nature Reserve. The educator role is predominately community-based, delivering the programme from various community venues across Plymouth and the South Hams areas and also remotely which may include home working.
